6/2 Snuggie: PMPS 340; +3 341 ((AMPS 374; +4 332; +10 334 (dose increase day

Just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you and your boy. I'm so sorry he is going through all of this. I hope you get some answers and safe solutions, Jay Dee.

@Purrberry thank you! Yes we should know his calcium a week from tomorrow. Vet is giving us something for pain for next 7 days, not sure what it is yet, but I’ll ask about this stuff next week! The more I think about it the more I think it might be arthritis. Wondering if I should back off the Zobaline in case it’s not neuropathy. I’d love to start eliminating unnecessary things - he gets so much ...
Hi. I combine a lot of Darcy's meds and supplements into gelcaps. I can put a few things in one gel cap and that way pill him less.

@Summer and Susie and @Suzanne & Darcy thank you! He seems better - no more accidents but still prefers the lower boxes.

a lot of what he gets are powders and liquids - luckily he scarfs down food altho his appetite and weight seem to be stabilizing.

we were given 3 doses of metacam for pain/inflammation from the UTI for now. We will see how that does. He has an appt with his main vet a week from tomorrow so I’ll know his calcium levels and can ask about arthritis and other pain meds. And, of course prevention of UTIs if possible.
Thank you for the support and virtual hugs!!

I hate to see Metacam given to a cat with CKD. There is a black box warning on using Metacam in cats. "In September, 2010, the makers of Metacam were forced by the FDA to put the following "black box label" on boxes of Metacam: Repeated use of meloxicam in cats has been associated with acute renal failure and death." I won't give it to my cats, but it is controversial. It's just that your sweetheart already has CKD. It worries me.

I asked about that - he said if we are using sparingly and not for extended periods of time it’s fine - but now I’m worried even one dose is too much...

Sorry. I know it's scary. I didn't really want to mention it. I have given it to cats before (before the black box warning came out and honestly I didn't know about it... just took what the vets prescribed at face value.) And those cats were okay. But they also did not have kidney disease. Mostly they were young cats.

I asked in my CKD group. I wanted to ask for bupe but try to balance “playing vet” and seeming like I know more than they do. It was only $15, so not terrible if I need to get something else.

I know what you mean about playing vet. I have to be careful about that as well. Since I do not know more than they do.

It’s such a balance!! I kind of played vet last few times - I’m not normally assertive so I think i overcompensated and came off as aggressive - and felt bad for days.

the info I read on metacam on Tanya’s site makes me feel ok for a 3 day run. I’ll ask about bupe and duralactin next week for sure. Thank you for helping me inform myself :)
