Good morning :)

It's been a year since I posted. Ollie has been doing well but we seem to have hit a bump and I am very confused if I am moving forward correctly.

Ollie is now hyperthyroid, it's under control with meds and to get it under control he also became hypothyroid for a bit. I work in Massachusetts half a year and Florida the other half. Decent vets in both places. No other support systems at all in either place.

Ollie stayed very regulated until this past April. We did travel back and forth three times so he did have travel stress but seemed to handle it extremely well. His reading are now very irregular and I am worried. Vet has no real input, doesn't think his teeth are the problem but if we don't get him regulated soon she would like me to take him to Angel Memorial (huge vet Hospital in Boston) to have his dental done, she claims they have a board certified team that would keep him safe while under.

I have been testing as much as possible for the past month. My work hours are now overnight so those tests are not as frequent. I did a full curve yesterday and then at PMPS he shot thru the roof. No ketones and I don't remember him being bouncy before. He's eatting, playing, peeing and pooping fine. I can't see any patterns and keep increasing insulin. My gut is telling me he is not getting enough insulin and I need to let his depot fill and be patient. I just would like another set of eyes to see what they think.

I have done all the regular checking, new insulin (actually two new bottles tried), changing injection site, no carbs or food changes. I am lost at this point and questioning now if maybe he is getting too much insulin.

My spreadsheet is up to date. You will notice for a while I caved to peer pressure ("You don't have a life" type) and stopped testing a lot. I regret that so much now since that is where I might have seen the problem starting. Lesson learned.

My thoughts are the insulin petered out ( it traveled back and forth twice ) and his depot held him for a while. I also caved to keeping him super tightly regulated since both vets didn't like to see so much green on spreadsheet and worried about him going hypo. If I get him regulated again that will not happen.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. nailbite_smile

Thank you! Patsy (his spreadsheet has newest at beginning, never got that straigtened out)

I have to run to work, so only have a minute or two to post.

I do see that you went right past the 2.75 dose and flew through the 1.75 dose. Other than that, you seem to be holding the doses for the 3 days and doing a fair amount of testing. I would keep up the testing as you have been and keep trying to get those mid-cycle tests.

Others will be on later, to take a look at your ss and give their thoughts.

I do recommend a board certified dental specialist. J.D. had a dental in January using one, as his regular vet would not do a dental on him, and he had a major abcess in his canine tooth.

Good luck. It's nice to see you again. You always have us for support whenever you need us. :)

My civvie Holleigh-berri had dental surgery at Angell while battling CRF, anemia, and with a heart murmur. They monitored her very closely throughout. My Donovan went to Veterinary Dental in Acton Mass. All they do is dental work. Even though he was OTJ at the time, his numbers crept up into the diabetic range but I hadn't yet re-started insulin. He also had a heart murmur. They monitored him closely and tested his BG before/during/after surgery. Their biggest downfall is not having 24/7 coverage like Angell.

Hi, Patsy! Angell is terrific. One of our former members used a wonderful vet there (Dr. B) and he is also my sister's kitty's vet.

I hate to tell you this but having your SS numbers most recent first makes it much more difficult to see/interpret trends.

How well regulated is Ollie's hyper-T? Thyroid issues can effect BG. I'm presuming that Ollie has had a through check up and the only question is his teeth. If that is, indeed, the case, I would keep doing what you're doing and increase his dose every 6 cycles until his nadirs are back in the greens.

Thanks Sienne. You are correct that all bloodwork came back fine. As far as thyroid I don't have a number (need to get all emailed to me) but vet was very satisfied with results.

I will continue and then go ahead with dental at Angel. So good to hear good reports about it. Will continue on this route. So appreciate everyone's time and responses. Ollie was doing so well and I feel like I fell off the wagon!
