Thank you all so so much for your kind words on my last post. Tim and I have truly appreciated every single comment and it means so much to us :bighug:

Mo is doing much better! We picked him up from the after hours to take him on the 25 minute journey back to our usual vet/hospital. The vet last night said he responded really well to the gabapentin(sp?) and was chilled out so she was able to do glucose readings, give him pain meds. He has had a couple of accidents though because he's been so chilled out, my poor love. They were feeding him i/d wet food and he gobbled up everything they put in front of him, so he's definitely feeling better if he's gobbling up all his food again. We used to feed him i/d wet food so he must have loved the familiar taste too :)

When he arrived at the after hours, his blood glucose was about 540. She tested him again after the insulin (they would only give 3 units due to Prue's stupid advice....) and he went down to 414. But this morning before his insulin he was back up to the mid 500s. I think stress and the high carb food along with the pain are all playing a part in that. She wasn't able to test his ketones because of the wee accidents but I asked our usual vet today to do another ketone check.

Basically, the after hours vet said Mo will be better off at home tonight as long as all goes well with him today. He's still on fluids, keen to eat, and has a bit more pep in his step. I'll be going back in this afternoon to have a good discussion with our usual vet and I will bring up everything you have all told me about what he needs at home for the chronic pancreatitis. I will take in a list of the meds in case they forget something ;)

:bighug: Much love to you all :bighug:

That's fabulous news that Mo is going home tonight! :joyful: Love this update. :)

Don't forget the Levemir prescription on the list of questions - sounds like you've had a couple vets now think it's a good idea, someone just has to DO it.

Absolutely that will be on my list of questions. I bet there will be push back because we saw a feline specialist and honestly every vet we have seen talks about her like she is God and doesn't want to go against her suggestions. It's really weird yet frustrating at the same time. I know Prue had it on her list of things to try so if I mention that, hopefully someone will switch us. PLEASE GIVE US LEVEMIRRRRRR

What wonderful news!!

I'm really surprised the vet doesn't have a blood ketone meter. You might want to buy one for home use. They are much more accurate than urine testing. The strips are pricey but can make life much easier if Mo won't like your trying to get a urine sample.

Hi Katy, I am so happy to see that Mo is doing better. I bought a ketone meter from Amazon because there was no way I could get a urine sample from Dolly. The strips are pricey but make life much easier for testing. Wishing Mo a speedy recovery. Wishing you a good day. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Good news. I second the ketone meter. Strips are pricey but you don't go through them like you do with glucose strips. And it can be a backup glucose meter if needed. Ketones show up faster in blood than the urine so you will know right away.

Oh and having meds at home is a game changer. Ollie was chronic. If symptoms show you can start meds immediately and keep it from getting out of control.

So happy to see this update - I hope Mo continues to improve and the vets enable you to help him at home with the various meds (& Levemir! Perhaps just ask them to humor you :)). Hugs to you and Tim :bighug:

Just got the call that Mo is coming home todaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The vet will give me a call a bit later to discuss some more. I was hoping to talk to her in person but oh well. Over the phone it is!
Great news Katy. I understand wanting a face to face but not much of that these days. Sending well wishes for Mo and that he does well being home. Sending healing hugs to all of you. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Face to face is normal for New Zealand. It's probably just over the phone because they don't have a room available for the face to face appointment. We don't have to wear masks or anything here at the moment :)

Thank you for your kind words :bighug:

Thanks everyone! The ketone meter is an idea but given he is more stressed when we do the glucose testing, I prefer just to stick something under him while he wees. He will be inside for the next couple of days until he is well enough to go outside again so I can catch him in the litter box. I have one shift left at work tomorrow and then I have 3 weeks off. Plenty of Mosie and mummy time :)

That is wonderful. My husband just told me that New Zealand got it right in regards to the Pandemic. Take good care and hoping Mo gets to go out soon. Sending more well wishes and I know you will both be enjoying your Mo and Mummy time. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

He's finally home! The first thing Mo did was head straight to his food bowl. I put down some Ziwipeak and he wasn't too interested so I put down some Fancy Feast and he gobbled that right up! He's now laying in his favourite spot in the doorway purring loudly and resting.

SO, the vet did another urinalysis as his bladder was really full and she wanted to check ketones. There is good news and bad news. The good news is he has no ketones in his urine yaaaaay! The bad news is she found some bacteria so he is on antibiotics to clear that up. That's fine and manageable, I'm happy with that. He's on some good pain meds to have 2 to 3 times a day and we've been loaded up with Gabapentin to give him every 12 hours. No Cerenia but we have a capsule leftover from the last time he had pancreatitis. I'll ask them when we go back for a checkup on Tuesday if we can have another script just to keep in our cabinet. The list of drugs we have been given are as follows: Gabapentin, Temgesic, and Clavulox. I asked about having some medications for him to keep at home just so when we start to see the first signs, we can nip it in the bud and she said yes that's a good idea. Glad she's on board with that!

We will be giving him 50mg of gaba soon along with his pain meds. He's clearly got a good appetite, which makes me so happy and he was doing some loud purrs just before. He's very happy to be home and we are relieved to have him home. YAAAAY :D :D :D

I forgot to mention. They think that he has probably had underlying chronic pancreatitis and that could be what is causing his insulin resistance. We won't know until I get the call back from the specialist regarding the more complex blood test she took last Tuesday. That would explain a lot. So if we can manage it at home, hopefully that's the answer to all our problems!

Glad he home with you now! I'm sorry that God-like Prue is overshadowing everything...ugh...

I hope you can work him back to where he needs to be sooner than later! Best to you and Mo!
