Well, its round 2 on the Lev. I asked Latte to take it a little slower and sliiiiiiide into home base tonight...just like her pal Shadow often does! ;-)

This a.m.'s # is a combo of that bounce, which seemed to be delayed or bobble for a bit last night, and kibble overnight. She ate a lot of it. The dbl edge sword, ya know? Im just thrilled that she ate. And she obviously feels better this a.m. from having something other than baby food in her over the past 36hrs. But, it does make things a little more confusing with her numbers. She could possibly have a weird drop before +2, from what she ate around pmps +5 (JUST IN: the drop I suspected @ +1- 429), and then the unknown time of the kibble she ate last night leaves a mystery as to when she might take a bit of a spike and a drop in this cycle.

She seems good this a.m., tho! She played with her peacock feather for the first time in weeks. She is much more interested in water this a.m. than bfast, which is not too surprising. Makes me think she ate the kibble shortly before amps. Even though her numbers are high this a.m., it does not seem she has been sitting in them very long. Im sure this is helpful in her feeling better this as well. Its a rainy day here. Second day staycation :lol: (boy the terms that are evolving from the word vacation!). Today is set aside for testing, cleaning, and a run to the bank. If the rain clears, another bike ride! :mrgreen:

Thanks for those of you hanging out and watching over us yesterday. It added a sense of humor to what we are going through, that was much needed.

I will keep you all posted thru the day.......

Latte has another friend named Shadow? :o
Certainly you are not talking about MY Jacques-Shadow-Cousteau!!

Derek Jeter might slide into home base but my Shadow is most known for his THUD and PLOP onto the ocean floor! That in itself is very difficult to do too....considering the buoyancy of the water...
perhaps you might consider using RAJA as your role model for Latte...
and just leave Shadow and his SS out of it completely! :lol:

Quite a day you had yesterday Carolyn....HUGS to both you and Latte for the great job! and you even got a bike ride in too!
What kind of kibble to do you feed her?

Well that's a better WCR today! Let see if she listened to her wise Momma, and will do a lovely slow drop and end up with a delightful PMPS! So far...knock wood!

Good luck today. I'm jealous you are just starting your vacation and it's my day to go back to work. ick. ;-)

Apparently Latte thought it was much better to be outside laying in her wet (wilted) grass, in 50/60 degree, drizzly, windy weather than being chased around the house by a bean with a bag of treats and a poker.

Hmmmm...imagine that! :roll:

I know someone who will be happy when i go back to work. :lol:

Oh, I don't know about that!! So glad to hear that Latte is eating better and even playing with her feather. You must be doing something right! Good luck with the rest of the day and I hope the rain stops so you can go out on your bike again. Stu says: "food is great, Latte, eat lots of it!"

boy it sure hangs around :sad: Gotti, Doodles brother was in heaven cuz he got a kibble treat yesterday and this morning he was waiting by the container, thinking if he begged he could have more :roll:
Nope....he's so bummed he has to eat healthy now :YMSIGH:

Sorry for anyone who saw the 911 icon for a brief second...phone is sensitive to touch. No emergency, other than my freakin heart feeling like its getting ripped out. I feel so bad for her.

Something is not right with her this evening.
The third eyelid is covering 1/4 or more of her eyes. I have only seen it this bad once befo}e, a few yrs ago. The vet said then, it can be a sign of gi distress.

She is doing a wierd thing...maybe sneezing? Shaking her head and blowing droplets of water out of her nose.

She drank a lot of water earlier today and ended up vomiting, after choking from drinking so much.

She does not look comfortable.

She's going to come down from this, Carolyn. More than likely in her next cycle. That's what I think. She really went low yesterday and I figured something like this would happen. Her numbers weren't pretty this cycle but at least she wasn't red all day and she didn't bounce around. (I know I don't HAVE to ask you as you have infinitely more knowledge than I, but have you checked for ketones)?

I really think this is still rebound. There doesn't appear to be any other explanation for it. Latte will go down to nicer numbers again... just hang in there.

ETA: I'm sorry I didn't see that. I never heard of that. Is your vet open? If so call and ask him what it might mean?

When Alex wasn't feeling well a month ago vet said third eyelid showing is a sign a cat doesn't feel well.

Ya she is NOT feeling well. She looks terribly uncomfortable in fact. I gave her a kiss and told her how brave she was and how much I love her. Im trying to leave her alone and just watch from afar, in hopes she will start relaxing. I do have a call into the vet, but Im afraid he wont call until they are closed.

Unless she snaps out of whatever this is as quick as she fell into it, I highly doubt she is going to eat anything anything tonight. Lots of licking her lips is a sure sign she will vomit anything that goes in.

Im going to run her to the vet in about 20 minutes for some vitals and possibly a u/a, ketone test. I dont want to risk her having a cold, infection, fluid in lungs, or anything like that...especially with all this pred on board and go all night long having her feel miserable.

Carolyn....that was good that you could get her to the vet's. That was the best thing to do!
I hope it will be something they can help her with...allergies sound reasonable...

We are back...she probably has the beginnings of a cold/infection...runny nose...eyes were okay at vet (to be expected), temp 100.1, no gurgling in lungs from drinking so much and getting down wrong tube. She was growly and hissy...which was good. weight down .4lbs from maybe 2 weeks ago. Will start a/bs again.

ETA: A URI is not a great thing for her to develop with all the pred she is on. Hopefully the a/b clears it up w/o any complications.

Then we come home to a what?!?! 322 pt drop!!!!!!!!! :o
She ate 1/2 jar bf when we got home. Waiting to make sure it stays down because she was looking so nauseated. Will test again at +3 and feed more bf if keeping it down.

I dont even know what more to say or do.

I'm glad you got some food into her. Does Latte usually drop from vet stress? Most cats go up, but Lucy drops from the vet and from being in the car.

I'm glad it's just a respiratory infection, that's minor and should go away quickly.

I just gave it. She doesnt need to bounce to 600 later on from any number lower than this. Though, I doubt I can stop her. When she is ready to go one way or another, she has a mind of her own.

Really...you dont think taking a drop out would help? She goes as high as she does because of these drops. AAAAh! so frustrated! :sad:

It must be quite a relief to find out Latte has the sniffles, so hopefully the a/b and some nice rest in her mini lawn will have her feeling better soon.

yeah, cleo typically has some big drops after vet visit. hoping the bounce isn't too bad and is already clearing.
carolyn, you are doing great. i know it's frustrating to see our babies hurting but you are doing the best job you can and i know she loves you for it. (((HUGS)))

If Latte has an infection it will probably mess with her numbers as could the AB. If she goes up from this drop it's not a real number, it's just rebound or from the other stuff and she will come back down fast enough. You just saw that. Please stay calm. You know what to do and you're doing a great job.

She probably felt crummy from her 'cold' and will be a lot better when the AB's start to kick in. A&J look like the saddest kitties in the world when they get that. Honest!

I don't know, Carolyn, you're the boss and you usually know what is right for Latte. I still see her same rebound pattern that she was having on Lantus, but it looks like she is clearing it faster. Today's probably cleared extra fast because of the vet (did he give her an a/b while she was there that might have already started working?). The last two days she has spent quite a bit of time in good numbers, with just the stuff on the ends being ugly (ok, the pink isn't fantastic either, but it's fairly flat pink and all things considered, that's not bad). And your WCR this morning was terrific. :mrgreen:

With the infection present, it's even more important to be careful about ketones. I know you already know that and that you always weigh than into your decisions. A shave might not hurt, and if it would make you feel better to try it then try it. Just watch the litterbox.
 
I know four things:

1. I do NOT know what to do, or how to help her anymore.

2. This is NO quality of life for her. To have a few good hours every few days. The rest feeling like crap...MOSTLY (but not completely) because I cannot help control the ONE disease she has that *should* be controllable, or at least somewhat manageable.

3. I cant fully seperate if SHE is the one done, or if its me.

4. This is not fair to her and cannot continue.

You're gonna make me cry! You are the best momma bean in the world, and obviously you know what is best for Latte. But please please.... don't give up hope! Let's see how she handles this cold :)

Dear Carolyn, I think you left out the 5th thing: Love. You love Latte and you want to do what is best for her. She loves you and she will tell you in her own way what you so desperately need to know. Look beyond the pain and the frustration. Your sweet girl will guide you.

carolyn, what does vet have to say about it (re quality of life and if he/she thinks latte could be at the end)? if he/she didn't say, you might want to call to discuss further.

noting, tho, that you've only just started lev so you're not at all seeing how she'll be on lev. not sure whether to call it the honeymoon phase or not, but when switching insulins we might see a strong response for a few days, then up to about 10 days before the system is done sorting out how to react to the new insulin. so please give it time.

the potential infection does complicate things, so of course we have to watch carefully how she does on the dose as the potential infection starts to clear.

i know how frustrating and lonely this feels. just hoping you start seeing some real improvement asap and start feeling better. glad you're bike riding. please do remember to take care of yourself too during this stressful time. hoping you have many more quality days ahead with your little latte.
