How does Champ go from 104 at 12:30 last night to a whopping 480 this morning? I checked his BG twice to make sure this wasn't a bad strip. Is this just a bounce, even though he has never EVER had a number this high, or is this a failed reduction? How long do you give it before you consider the reduction a failure? This has pretty much bummed me out because he was doing so well and numbers this high scare the bejeezus out of me.

Aw Patty, I know the feeling all to well. I'm guessing this is just a big bounce, and with the way Champ has been working it lately, I'm sure he'll clear it in no time. He just has to spend a little more time in LTS (Liver Training School).

Ok, Champ...you heard MamaBean - she likes it when you keep her busy with all those pretty greens, so come on down now!

Hi guys .. I don't have any answers for you .. I know there were a few times mocha gave us some black numbers .. we were like, what the .. but she always came back down and champ will too .. just hang in there!

Champ's already come down a little, even after eating. I'm not going to check his BG again until +4 because I don't want to keep seeing red numbers on his SS!

Probably a bounce from the 66 nice green number of yesterday!! THis is a Good Thing!
You did great yesterday & remember a bounce can take up to 72 hrs to clear, so dont panic, he will come down in a day or 2--Champ is really being a Champ!!
AND looks like the dose reduction is working!!! :mrgreen: :mrgreen: Let's see what's what today!-OK?

It's probably a bounce. this is the hard part, waiting them out! :YMSIGH: Champ is doing so well, he will come back down.

While we hurt when we see these numbers , it is long term time in them that is damaging. We hate to see them there, but you have to wait out the 72 hours. If he is like Tess he will wait until you are pulling your hair out at the very last second.

BTW, belated congrats on the reduction. Looking good, Champ did go back to green on this and it wasn't immediately following the decrease either, so hopefully tht wasn't shed carryover.

Weird like restless, coming into my office and crying (never does that), wandering the house (never does that). I don't know. I'm probably projecting because of the high numbers.

Patty, sorry to see your high number this am and sorry to hear that Champ is acting "weird". It's amazing how just a little change in personality can be so glaring to us when we watch them so closely. I hope things even out with his numbers and with him today.

Patty, as others have already said, this is most likely a bounce from the pretty greens. A bounce can take up to 72 hours to clear, and you cannot assess whether the reduction has failed until after the bounce clears. I know it's hard to be patient when you see those high numbers, we've been there too. He will come down, hang in there!

When you say he is wandering around crying, is it possible that he is hungry? They tend to be hungrier when they are very high or very low. Any LB issues? How are the other Ps? It wouldn't hurt to get a ketone test....

Thanks for stopping by, Laurie! He finally settled down and went into the DD's room (where he usually spents his nap times). He's napping normally and when I went in to check on him, he did his great big stretch and proceeded to purr the house down when I got going on the head scratchfest. I have fed him more this morning, knowing he may be hungrier. He didn't want the food the last time I put some down, though he ended up eating it. I think those super high numbers this morning were just making him antsy and uncomfortable.

As I'm writing this, I decided to go check Champ's BG since he's acting so much more comfortable now. At his +2 he had made it down to pink, and now he's in low yellow at +4!!! He has gotten so good at clearing his bounces, like he really knows what's going on and he's trying to do his part. I just love my little man-cat. He's AWESOME!!!

I am glad to see he's working to clear the bounce! What a trooper!

Willy always took the whole 72 hours to clear his... it was very frustrating because I would want to continue with what I was doing (increasing the dose) but I was always waiting on something.... I think half the battle is waiting... the other half is remembering to breathe :lol:

Ugh, I totally know about the "weird" behavior and feeling conflicted if it's real or just concern! This happens all the time in our house between my DH and I! :roll: :lol:

Well Patty, coming from the momma of a cat who loves to bounce just know that it will clear and you may need to borrow Marje's patience pants for the time being. Leo just loves bouncing after blues, usually into reds, but he always clears them so don't worry too much, and yeah I do notice he doesn't feel well when he's that high, but it's only temporary.

Champ's PMPS looks sooooo much better than his AMPS!!!! He spent the entire day in sissy's room (the DD), just sleeping away. I actually went in their, laid down on the DD's bed with Champers, and had a one hour siesta!. It was oh so fabulous!! :-D I'm ready Champers....give me the low numbers tonight!!!

Hi Patty - wow on that amps - what a bounce! it is nice to see that he cleared it quickly, posting a really good amps. I know on the red numbers - I remember them all to well, and the feelings that come with them. I hope Champ has a really good cycle tonight. GO CHAMP!

After a yellow bounce & surf sometimes comes a nice beautiful blue day tomorrow--That's how I see it!
Good job today! Gotta get used to the bounces, it's the body's way of protecting itself!

You wanted pretty numbers and now you're probably gonna need to put coffee on. That's a BIG drop at +1. It looks like an exciting evening ahead.

If you want to see a bounce, look at Gabby's SS from PM on 5/31 to AM on 6/1. She went from the 40s to the 400s.

okay so this reminds me of a song from middle school: when i dip, you dip, we dip!

it was the coolest song ever back then. now it reminds me of kitty blood sugar. i'm going to watch scooby doo before i go to bed to make sure i don't turn into an adult.

yes, night three, and i work ten-hour days!!! my daughter isn't home much. she just finished her sophomore year in college. she works two jobs over the summer, plus hanging out with friends, plus hitting all the parties with the frat boys!!! I refuse to ask her to stay home...this is her time to have FUN. staying home and being responsible happens way too soon so i just want her to have fun. of course, i wish she would OFFER to stay home and help me out by doing the BG checks over night, just every once in a while, but oh well. :-D

I had put the times of my BGs wrong, i didn't do a +1 tonight. but you're right...watch out what you wish for. This means Champ gets another dose decrease, right?!!!

Yes ma'am!!! Newly diagnosed, below 50 (as long as it isn't the second time today :-D ) = dose reduction. Congrats!!!!!

It's a pcpcpc (pokecarbpokecarb) night for us....

patty, thanks for your comments. i don't know what to say about champ, i guess if the time comes you want to have him tested, you'll know it. as far as physical signs - i've now stuck punkin's youtube video into my sig line and you can look at that video for the big tongue, big feet look. ya gotta pay attention and watch the licking, though! :lol:

Thanks Jules!! I posted comments in Punkin's condo.

I tried Friskies MC with the 44 at +4, but it only brought him up 4 points in a half hour so I broke out the FF HC 18%. I'll be checking again here in just a couple minutes.
 
Well, it looks like we're done with pokies for tonight. I'm going to stay up and get as much of my morning work done as possible so I don't have to get up early other than to shoot the cat!!
