Not surprisingly, there was very little action on the last dose, so I increased Walt back up to 1.5 U this morning. Now let's hope that we will start to see some better numbers. He is still telling me that it is all the kittens' fault... but I tried to argue that Father's Day would be the perfect day to get in touch with his paternal instincts. I think he is still laughing at that idea.
Meanwhile, my two big boys, Mandarin and Capone, are still taking excellent care of the kits while Sparrow is pouting. It looks like she wasn't quite ready yet to give up her spot as the baby of the family.
Hope everyone has a good day - and happy father's day to all the dads of 2- and 4-legged children. I am about to take one of the shelter dogs to the dog beach. Let's hope he likes it! He likes the little kiddie pools at the shelter, but I have no clue how he feels about a bigger lake.
Hey Walter....the kittens are too small for the lagoon so it's safe there for you....try it out buddy. I love the kitten stories too! Hope the pup enjoys the beach I've flown in and out of the South Bend airport several times...love that little airport. My life long friend has a summer place in the Sister Lakes...good times.

I love that airport too - especially after flying in and out of Chicago O'Hare last week and dealing with endless security lines!
The dog beach was great and Wayne had a blast! Wayne is a 9-month-old pit bull puppy that was surrendered as a very sickly 3-month-old and has basically grown up at the shelter. He can be fearful in new situations, but I was very proud of him today. He made lots of new friends (2- and 4-legged) and he LOVED the water. Very glad that he wore one of my dogs' life vests. I think my heart stopped for an entire minute when he ran down the dock to jump right into the middle of the lake.
Not much action here at home. Walter decided on a pink and yellow outfit for the day and has shown no signs of working the dosecrease. The kits are still crazy... Iris in particular. Unfortunately, Flora, the little black one, is starting to feel a bit crummy. She has had some diarrhea and doesn't want to eat and drink much. I managed to give her fluids by myself (which I really hate doing to a skinny one-pound kit) and I brought out some KMR. Luckily, she decided that the KMR was pretty yummy and lapped up a good amount. But she could definitely use some feel-better vines.
Sending lots of feel better vines for little Iris. What is KMR? Glad that Wayne had a blast and good going with the life vest...silly boy. I bet that is a good way to catch eyes on the shelter animals and hopefully attract some adopters. Hopefully you'll see some movement from Walter soon.
KMR is a milk replacer for kittens. Flora and Iris were already able to eat canned food when they were dumped at the shelter, but they were probably not much more than 4 weeks old. In hindsight, we should have probably transitioned them a bit more gradually and started out with formula rather than canned food. You never know. Iris was initially the smallest and she is doing great on canned food and has been gaining weight. Fern is from a different litter - so she was already bigger and is loving her canned food. Hopefully, Flora will catch up soon once she is hydrated and gets some more calories.
Here's a picture of Flora eating her KMR (=Kitten Milk Replacement). She decided that she was too old for a bottle, but too spoiled to eat out of a bowl. So we compromised and had her eat from a spoon. Meanwhile, Iris was biting my hand in protest... it's tough when you're not the center of attention.
Sparrow, I know it's tough when new babies come into your home, but just think how they will look up to you and respect you, and how much you can teach them!! Won't that be lovely? Just think about it.
Walter, you get a day or so to let your depot adjust, and maybe a pass for a little NDW, but then we expect you to get busy and work that juice!
