Howdy folks,
well I just dont get it...
Saturday we had a great night....and then it was over, just like that
so we are back in the pink and reds again...
I upped him to 2.25 units and nothing so far, will wait to Thursday t o up to 2.5...??...
Looks like everyone out there is doing fairly well...hope it continues!

I'm happy to see you are getting more midcycle tests, but there are still huge holes in his spreadsheet and, IMO, not enough data to base an increase to 2.25U, let alone an increase to 2.5U in 2 days. There are 2 skipped preshots. Those blues may be popping up more often then you realize even though he is apparently rebounding pretty hard if that is the case. Those hard rebounds do happen and without some spot checks you may never catch them. What if the day he had the blues you had never checked the +9 AND skipped the preshot test? You would have never known those blues happened!

I thi.nk you should slow down with the increases, stick with 2.25U since you're already there. Get more tests, maybe set an overnight alarm if you are gone too much during the day. Then you'll have more data to base dose increases on.

Hi Vicky
thanks for the input,
I based the increase on his actions as he was starting to drink a lot of water
and peeing alot, which to me indicates not enough insulin...

Sorry Shakes' numbers aren't cooperating with you. I know for me, even though Hershey was only on ProZinc for 4 months, I got comfortable with kind of knowing what he was going to do (usually not a lot) so didn't have to worry so much about when I couldn't test. I am clueless with the change to Levemir and maybe over-testing! But, the hardest part for me so far has been the .25u when it never looked like it was enough. Patience, young grasshopper - yeah, not so much. ;-)

I won't pray patience for you; I never pray for patience because patience comes through trials. I will pray perseverance and answers! :-D

Have a good day, my friend -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Yes, he's going to drink a lot of water when BGs are in 300s and 400s - anything over their renal threshold will cause PU/PD. It's not what we base increases on, plain and simple.

I know it's heartbreaking to get readings so high all the time. However, I highly suspect there are lows going on that infrequent BG checking is not catching. At the very least, please stick with a dose, and get a weekly curve after being on that dose for 5 days, if you cannot test more frequently. I and undoubtedly others are reluctant to base dose recommendations with so little data to go on.

My comment about the "blue" day should be an eye-opener. I will repeat it again, because it's that important.

I would NEVER skip a peshot, that is just plain and simple
I do the best I can and I was also told that I should NOT hold for 5 days
I should hold for 6 cycles and if you see nothing then increase
He does not start coming down until after +4...so any numbers before that are a waste

Hey Denise, Shakes & Thumper have a conspiracy to give us a hard time! It does get very frustrating.

I wonder if you just forgot to put #'s on your SS? I think I see on 6/3 & 6/17 PM cycle it is blank? Maybe that's what Vicky was seeing?

Oh ok thanks Barbara, I used a different meter so I havent written those numbers down
but I do have them.
Thanks for the clarification Sheila, that is helpful

Yes, that is exactly what I saw. Sorry if I have something wrong, but they were blank when I made my earlier posts.
