Re: 6/19 Jinx AMPS 387

Hi guys .. ok jinx .. let's see what you can do today .. how about some blues again?? Have a great day guys!

Re: 6/19 Jinx AMPS 387

He's coming down real fast so just gave him 1tsp of HC and 1tsp of LC to slow him down a bit. Will check in 30 min.

Re: 6/19 Jinx AMPS 387, +3.5 64

Wow, good catch. Wonder if the +2 would have let you know this was coming. Jinx, you are getting a reputation as a diver! Take it easy on Joe.

Re: 6/19 Jinx AMPS 387, +3.5 64

Hi Wendy. A +2 definitely would have helped but I got called into work for a couple hours and thought I could get away with it considering his pre-shot. Not anymore...

Assuming there's a decent probability this is going to be like the last couple days in the green, any advice on how to proceed? I don't want to poke him in the ear every half hour for the next five or six hours so I'm wondering if giving him 2tsp of HC instead of 1 is the way to go. I won't jump the gun yet and will see what he does. Just wanted to get some thoughts in case it's one of those days.

Re: 6/19 Jinx AMPS 387, +3.5 64, +4 79

 Really, Jinx? It really depends on how confident you are about reading his numbers. When Tess is in the 60s we usually only test every hour. It also depends on how the low numbers occur in relation to the nadir. Also, this may still be shed action, paws crossed that the reduction holds.

Re: 6/19 Jinx AMPS 387, +3.5 64, +4 79

Hi, Ann. Thank-you for the post. It seems like during his recent runs in the green, it's taken a lot of effort to keep him above 50. Although I am happy to put forth that effort and know how fortunate this is for me and Jinx, I was wondering if giving him a little more HC is the way to go. My concern is that combining HC and LC every time will fill him up and he won't eat his afternoon meal.

At this point, I don't feel comfortable testing him every hour. Especially considering how unpredictable he's been and how he dropped so fast today. Also, I'm not sure where his nadir has been because I've been having to manage his curve while he's in the green for 5-6 hour time spans. I'm going to test again in about 15 min, which will be 45 min since his last. We'll see how that works.

Joe

Unfortunately, we each have to figure out what works for our kitty and schedule. While some feed HC, I realized I can't do it with Gracie. And while there is no proof that feeding high carbs accentuates the bounce, I seem to see it around LL. Gracie's bounces are definitely less without the HC. Look at Mannie's condo from yesterday. Michelle had to give him alot of really HC stuff the day before to keep him up and he had a killer of a bounce yesterday. I haven't seen him that high in a long time. But do we know the HC accentuates the bounce? No we don't. Perhaps at the beginning as they are going up but the HC wouldn't last nearly as long as the bounces. It's a mystery.

Having said that, you have to do what you need to do to keep him safe and if you have to feed HC because it's tough to test him often then you just need to be aware that it wears off so you can't get complacent.

He's really doing well, though....clearing bounces quickly and coming down the dosing scale.

Re: 6/19 Jinx AMPS 387, +3.5 64, +4 79, +4.7 75

Thanks, Marje. I totally understand what you're saying. I'll err on the side of caution and will try not to give him too much HC unless I have to.

The combination of 1tsp HC and 1tsp LC when I tested him at 64 has been effective so far. So I'm crossing my fingers he'll be above 50 when I test in ~20min and then he'll get his afternoon meal a half hour later.

Re: 6/19 Jinx AMPS 387, +3.5 64, +4 79, +4.7 75, +5.5 82

Not sure if it's the 1tsp HC/1 tsp LC I have him at +3.5. Or if I just got lucky today. I'm thinking the latter... :-D

Will feed in a half hour and test at +7.

Re: 6/19 Jinx AMPS 387...+4 79, +4.7 75, +5.5 82, +7 108, +9

Well darn it! Looks like Jinx is on the trampoline. Paws crossed he clears it soon!

Re: 6/19 Jinx PMPS 499

Good idea on the ketone.

So in order to try and minimize the bounce, you want to control the dive and make sure he doesn't get too low....like the 30s.

It's tough to catch those low numbers sometimes but early cycle tests will tell you whether to exoect them.

Have a great night.

Thank, Marje. I'll start checking earlier than I have been to catch those dives. If I had taken +2's like you've suggested all along, he may not be so high right now.
