Morning! Or almost afternoon for me if I go by my body clock! No wake-up call again, and I get up to find Maggie asleep on the sofa, and she didn't even raise her head when I came into the living room. I get worried when I see her not stirring in the morning, but finally she raised her head with a big yawn! No lb yet, but everything else seems normal. I'm happy to see her come down to 159 bg this morning. Lately there has been no drop at the +3, and I was thinking I needed a new vial. I've used up all my diabetes allowance on Maggie's VPI policy, but my plan rolls over the end of the month, so if my juice can hold off until then, I can get some reimbursement, just 13 more days. If it needs replaced before then, I'll do it though! I sure wish they reimbursed on strips! I am planning on meeting a friend for coffee later and try to get back into some walking if my feet will allow it. Have a nice Saturday everyone.

Well that AMPS isn't too shabby! And sounds like Maggie was a lil tired this morning too.

Does Maggie have insurance? I've had Leo on insurance now for years and weirdly enough, they cover strips too.

It sounds like you have yourself a great Saturday planned, enjoy!

Better Maggie! nice mid blue this morning, keep on headed down.

I need to look at pet insurance.... just never pursued it - probably an error on my part, what with all of Mannie's expenses. :?

Enjoy coffee with your friends,. I enjoy those times - it is nice just to get together over a cup of the hot stuff.

Good luck with your plans for walking. I hope that pans out for you. I really enjoy it.

HI MAGGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~~ Mannie

+3 175 Maggie's going the wrong at the +3's lately!!

Hi Tracy, I have Veterinary Pet Insurance, and it's really helped, especially with Maggie's resorbtive lesion dentals and the diabetes. The Vet's office completes the form and Faxes the insurance forms for me which is so nice. Which pet insurance do you have that covers strips?

Hi Michelle, it's so strange as Maggie starts with a nice blue and at the +3 when she should be going down, she goes up! And she had no food within the two hour period! Yes, I do enjoy gettting together with friends for coffee and breakfast/lunch. IThanks for the good luck with walking. I have foot problems, but hopefully with the orthotics and NB shoes, it will help.

Re: 6/18 Maggie AMPS 159; +3 175 ATrak

That is a very nice morning number for Maggie :-D .. I hope someday to have pet insurance for my clan. I'm glad that it's helping you out for Maggie.
Good luck with the feet holding out today (no pain for Ann!!)
Have a wonderful Saturday and enjoy your time with your friend..

Thank you for the very touching words and support for me and my family this past week. It
means a great deal to me to know you care! You're so right, there is a hole that will always be there.

Nice AMPS Maggie. Sounds like she just wasn't quite ready to get up yet!!!

I also have VPI; I find their allowances are woefully inadequate and have learned how to be creative in filing claims....which is what takes me so long. I think I ask for a review on every single one and almost always get more $$$. Hope your lantus lasts until you get her policy renewed.

Have a great day.

Hi Ann,

Leo has Petsecure Insurance, it's Canadian though. I just went to their website and their US counterpart is VPI, which is what you and Marje have. When i was going to University i lived in an apt that made me get the insurance (it also covers stuff like kitty destroying the apt, etc) and i've just kept it ever since, and NEVER used it until now....wow does it ever help with the cost, they cover 80% of EVERYTHING! Strips, lancets, cost of the meter, syringes, insulin, everything but food. I've got the $5000 per year coverage, and my plan rolls over in September so i was planning on taking Leo in for a dental just before then.

How is VPI's coverage?

Re: 6/18 Maggie AMPS 159; +3 175; +7 139 ATrak

+7 139 Maggie is changing her Nadir on me. She normally drops at the +3 and then is back up at the +7 and +8!

Hi Squirrel, you've been in my thoughts so often lately, and it's so good to have you back here on LL. Yes, the pet insurance helps. I never had to use it the first year and then the second year was when Maggie was diagnosed.

Hi Marje, I've been very pleased with VPI so far. I have the middle plan with more moderate coverage than the top Major Medical Plan. I just upgraded to a higher deductible ($100.00 a year) and higher allowances. I couldn't get the Major Medical Plan because of Maggie's age. My Vet completes the form and sends it to VPI.

Hi Tracy, your Canadian insurance sounds a bit better than our VPI, but it sounds like you may have more coverage elected than me. I have the VPI Medical Plan; it's the middle level, no coverage for routine visits and/or shots, etc. The reimbursement for veterinary expenses is based on a benefit schedule, not a percentage of the veterinary bill. Looking back, I should have enrolled in the Major Medical Plan when Maggie was younger.

Re: 6/18 Maggie AMPS 159; +3 175; +7 139 ATrak

Hi Ann: thanks for your questions about Scottish Folds. The folded ear (FE) gene is a mutation. It was first found in a Scottish barn cat (don't tell my uppity cats their ancestors are barn cats). The FE gene is an incomplete dominance gene meaning that it is not always expressed even if the kitty gets one FE gene and one straight eared (SE) gene. Therefore, Scottish Fold breeders never know what they will get in a litter. Even if you bred two FE cats together, you could get a litter of nothing but SE cats. However, breeding two FE cats together is a huge no no and only backyard breeders and unethical breeders would do this because it is proven that this type of crossing is associated with severe, congential arthritis. So it is important to breed only a FE with a SE; the SEs are vital to the breeding program. Our Teddi Bear and Gus are FE and Tobey and Gracie are SE. You can see pictures of all four on Gracie's profile. In the years since we got Teddi and Gus, they have found that even properly bred FEs can sometimes show a watered down version of the arthritis....Gus has this and his pedigree is impeccable for appropriate breedings. Because the round faces, big round eyes, and sweet dispositions are found in FE and SE, then we decided to get SEs after Teddi and Gus. Our GA Max was a SE. Breeders are always trying to produce great FE cats (show quality) but also extremely high quality SE cats (breeder quality) for their breeding program. Gracie and Tobey both are considered to be breeder quality and Gracie was supposed to go into the breeding program but..through a long story...I got her (never any intent to breed). Thank GOD!! So...a short course in Scottish Fold genetics!!

On the VPI, I just took out a new policy on Tobey and took out the Major Medical which is $100 deductible per year with higher allowances. It sounds to me like you got the major medical if you have a $100/year deductible. The other policy, the Superior Plan, is $50 deductible per illness and pays less. I'm about to renew Gracie's policy and will see if they will allow me to move her into the Major Medical even with diabetes. I believe for the Superior Plan, the allowance for diabetes is under $250/year. I have been happy in the fact that they have paid for alot of holistic treatments; they don't pay for supplements but when Gus had stem cell therapy for his arthritis, they made a nice payment. I'm very glad I have it; I'm just surprised at the low allowances for some chronic conditions.

Re: 6/18 Maggie AMPS 159; +3 175; +7 139 ATrak

Hi Marje, wow, thanks much for explaining the Scottish fold and their folded or unfolded ears. That's very interesting with the SE and FE genes and how they are bred. I think both are so adorable. All of yours have such a sweet disposition and I love their round faces and big eyes. I hope you made a stab in the VPI claims. I just got my new policy in the mail last week and must get it out and review. I usually do run out of the diabetes allowance by the end of the year.

Hi Tena, thanks. I guess my vial of Lantus is still good according to her numbers. The crazy numbers was just Maggie being a cat!
