WCR: Most Ps in place. No snuggles last night or this morning which indicates that she does not feel well. She did just curl up next to me as I write her condo, but there are a lot of indicators that she's feeling icky today. Her appy is very iffy today; as is her water intake. This morning, she walked to her water bowl, sat down, went to drink and then walked away. She did that twice. I got her fresh water and after a few minutes, she finally sat down and drank a little. I'm not sure if the pee pile in the LB was from last night or this morning. She sneezed a ton yesterday and had a few asthma-like coughs yesterday...and if I recall correctly, when her allergies get bad, her appy is crappy. She's also been licking her lips a little, which is a possible symptom of excess stomach acid. :?: I haven't started her on Pepcid AC because I read a warning on Tanya's page that suggested not to use/use with caution on cat's with heart problems. :YMSIGH:

I'm going to call my vet's office soon and ask about Pepcid AC and Bupe. I don't know if she's suffering from Pancreatitis or something else. And I'm worried about taking her in and having blood drawn (but I know we need to do it) because they have to sedate her. nailbite_smile I wish I knew how to draw blood. Oh, and her weight it down again, but I swear she's been eating ~3 ounces a day and she doesn't feel like she's lighter.

JUST NOW...THE SQUIRREL HAS MADE A REAPPEARANCE! @-) @-) @-) @-) @-)

Sending healthy vines to all our sugar kitties and their hoomins! Blessings!

HI guys .. I'm sorry to hear shasta is not feeling well .. It takes such a toll on them and us! Fingers crossed it's just some allergy issues .. have a great day!

Re: 6/17 Shasta AMPS=239 +2.75=161 +4=171

I'm sorry Shasta is feeling icky. I wish there was an easier way for you to draw blood. I take it you've looked into a mobile vet service??

I don't know much about he Pepcid AC, but at the same time, Trix does have a small murmur but she is on the max dose of Pepcid for her weight right now. There are also other options that may be better for Shasta, like Zantac. Just a few things to discuss with your vet. The Pepcid really seems to have helped Trix a lot - even though her appy isn't normal, she hasn't had any vomit issues (she would primarily spit up foam...classic stomach acid vomit) in quite some time.

The lip licking could also be straight up nausea. Maybe she would benefit from cerenia? Knowing that vetty visits are so stressful for Shasta, would your vetty be willing to prescribe that without seeing her in person?

Sending tons of feel better vines!!!

Re: 6/17 Shasta AMPS=239 +2.75=161 +4=171

I was going to say nice slide, but I hate it when it is due to poor appy. What about Slippery Elm Bark? That is supposed to have few side effects and to help w/ nausea.

Good appy and feel better vines coming your way. I'm so sorry Shasta isn't feeling good. I know how horrible it is to take them in to the vet. I've been thinking about you but haven't had a chance to post. Big hugs Deborah!!

Re: 6/17 Shasta AMPS=239 +2.75=161 +4=171 +10=puke

Welp, she did it again. Got up from her nap; jumped down to the ground and vomited. I had just picked up her empty bowl to wash it out and was able to get it under her in time to catch it...stomach contents and hair. :YMSIGH: After I made sure she was ok, I called the vet and the receptionist said she would get back to me. ugh. I'm sure she's dehydrated and feeling awful. I've just spent over an hour searching for a health food store nearby that sells organic slippery elm bark powder and so far...nothing local. I'm not even sure that would help at this point. I just don't know anymore.

I'm so sorry Shasta isn't feeling well. I hope your vet gets back to you soon. You can order Slippery Elm Bark capsules online fairly inexpensively. I think I got mine at the Vitamin Shoppe. I really think it has helped Sasha. She likes the taste of it in her food, too.

Sending good tummy and appy vines to Shasta and hugs to you!

((Deborah))

Nausea is not always due to stomach acid. It could be caused by something else, as you said, perhaps pancreatitis. You'd have to discuss that with the vet. I'd also ask the vet about ondansetron for the nausea and cerenia for the vomiting. You will need a script for the ondansetron as it is a human drug and you want to ask for the 4 mg (normally dose is 1/4 of a 4mg bid). You can see if you can just get a few (I'd buy at Costco) because it is expensive. What I did was also get a script for the injectable ondansetron and then I bought the 2mg/ml 20-ml vial at Thriving Pets so if either cat was nauseous, I could inject it and not worry about them keeping a pill down.

Sending many healing vines for Shasta.

I'm sorry Shasta is feeling so bad today. I hope the vet gets back with you soon. Sending prayers and hugs. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 6/17 Shasta AMPS=239 +2.75=161 +4=171 +10=puke

Thanks for all the vines. Just got off the phone with the receptionist and the vet wants me to wait a day or two to see if this "works out of her system." Meaning, see if she stops vomiting. He's wondering if it's just because she's been shedding much more lately and she's just trying to empty all the excess hair. I told her that she's been on again-off again vomiting since the 6th (6th, 8th, 10th, 16th & 17th). They want me to call back on Thursday to let them know how she's doing and if she's not better, we'll figure out our next plan of action. He does think that we should start sub-q fluids. So now it's a matter of me figuring out how to give fluids by myself and getting the supplies. This ought to be amazingly fun(ny)...especially with a road trip planned for next week to visit the family. :YMSIGH:

I also asked the receptionist to note that I was concerned that this could be pancreatitis or something other than just furballs. CKD is another thing I am very worried about. nailbite_smile

Marje, my vet is not familiar with ondansetron. When we were in last time (March), I asked about it and after a quick check, he came back and said that it was for cats with cancer and he only knew one local vet that had prescribed it. He said he'd rather hold off on the prescription until she started showing signs of nausea and even then, he had other medications that he could prescribe. :?:

Re: 6/17 Shasta AMPS=239 +2.75=161 +4=171 +10=puke

FWIW, my vet also is not familiar with odasetron, although she did look into it and prescribe it at my request. Trix, however, does seem to do better on cerenia, which is probably what your vet is referring to. ECID, of course. My vet definitely is happy with the cerenia/Pepcid combo.

IMO, if you think Shasta has p-titis, I would get her in sooner rather thn waiting two days. I know going is extra stressful for her, but you definitely want to start support ASAP if it is p-titis.

Continued prayers from us!

Also, one of the techs t my vets office suggested using a top loading carrier if you have to do fluids by yourself. I don't know if tha carrier freaks Shasta out, but it could be worth a try.

Re: 6/17 Shasta +10=puke PMPS=256

(((Deborah)))
I am sorry that Shasta isn't feeling well.
It's really hard when our cats are sick and we don't know why.
I do think that vomiting needs to be taken care of sooner rather than later... if it's not just hairballs.
It really dehydrates them... and you mentioned Shasta isn't drinking much.
Can you not ask you vet if you can pick up a box of cerenia, and just try one dose to see if she feels better?

I give subq fluids to Lucy by myself, but I got an easy cat.
Lucy doesn't like the poking moment because the needle is a bit bigger than the insulin syringes, but once the needle is in, she stays relaxed.
In the beginning, she was more wiggly and tried to get away so I used my right hand to hold the needle in place, left hand to hold the bag of fluids (I don't have a stand) and both my legs to sort of restrain Lucy.
But she now knows it feels good afterwards, so I don't even have to hold her, I just have to hold the needle in place.

Sending many many vines to Shasta.
