I had occasion to speak to the Relion customer service and thought I'd pass along some interesting info.

I know many of you use Arkray Glucocard 01 test strips from ADW with your Relion Micro or Confirm meters. However, the Relion rep told me that there is a slight difference between the meters and the strips and it's best to not to do that. Now, I understand that Relion would prefer to sell their strips for a higher price and also they don't want any opportunity for liability so they will not recommend or support using the Arkray strips, however similar they might seem, in the Relion meters.

For us, I prefer to eliminate any variables that I can control and on the off chance that there really is a difference, I haven't used the Arkray strips in my Relion. If you are doing this, I'd at least buy one small bottle of Relion strips and run comparisons just to see if there is a difference. Both meters use the glucose oxidase assay methodology.

Interesting tidbit. I use the Arkray strips in my Confirm, partly price and partly convenience in purchasing as I have to cross the border to shop and Walmart doesn't always have the volume I like to get at once. I did some cross comparisons a year ago with little/no difference. I think an alternate strategy for me will be to buy an Arkray meter the next time I buy more strips. It'd be interesting to hear what the Arkray salesman says.

might be helpful if a few people did a comparison, using the same blood drop (on your fingernail, perhaps) with each brand of strip. Posting it here would help others.

I just tested with Arkray strips with my new Arkray meter and my Relion Micro using Arkray because that is all I had. I got 204 with the Relion and 224 on the Arkray. Allowing for meter variance, pretty darn close. It was the first time I ever used the Arkray and I didn't have any of the control. I just ordered some Relion strips and will do another experiment when they arrive.

Thank you all. I think the comparisons are a good idea. While I don't expect to see much of a difference, I just thought I should pass it along.

I'm so glad that you did. We don't want any unnecessary variables messing with our numbers!! Thank you.

Suzanne

That was using the Arkray strips in the Relion meter?

Thank you!!!! :-D

Any others willing to be guinea pigs? ;-) As Julie suggested, you could even test yourself.
