Morning! All P's are in place this morning. I didn't get an early wake-up call (thank you Maggie), but now am so used to getting up early that my body clock says "get up"!! I have no way of knowing if this AMPS is food inspired or if it was a fur shot or not enough of a drop last night. Maggie free feeds. We already had our play time and brushing. Toothies brushing didn't go so well yesterday. I hope everyone has a nice end of weekday today! We are kicked out of our parking lot again for a few days for repairs of our parking lot. The neighboring houses are so upset with us for taking up the street parking in front of their homes. I can't blame them as it's happening so often, and this time it's from this past Wednesday until Sunday afternoon. I hope my car is okay and not vandalized.

Nice of Maggie to let you sleep in, sorry about your inner alarm clock going off though. Damn things

Hope the repairs go quickly and the neighbours forgive you.

Have a great Friday

Hi guys .. nice of maggie to not wake you up so early, now if you could just train your brain

Wow, how crazy .. I was going to write out that we don't use the CET poultry toothpaste and couldn't remember what exactly we were using in the past so I went to get it and found it to be CET poultry toothpaste ohmygod_smile We only used it for a few weeks as right around that time frame mocha developed a rash and hair loss on her throat area and we thought it might have something to do with the toothpaste so we stopped, and haven't started back up yet!

I can't believe we were crazy enough to believe the vet when she said it would be fine for our diabetic cat .. and we didn't even read the dang ingredients! Sheesh ..

Anyways, hope your car remains safe until you can use your parking spots again ..

have a great weekend guys!

Re: 6/17 Maggie AMPS 185 ATrak

Funny how you get used to getting up and your body won't let you sleep in. What can we do about that? I am up at 4:30 even on weekends and couldn't sleep in if I tried.

Hopefully Maggie will come down for you today gently. We free feed as well and it is hard to tell with his AMPS what it is from. I never know when he finishes off his bowl (when he does), but it seems like it is about +10 or +11.

Bummer about the construction work. Hope it ends soon and people are patient.

Have a wonderful Friday!!!

+3 188 - Not sure what happened here.

Thanks Devon for stopping by - I was wondering which toothpaste you now use?
Hi Melissa, isn't it strange! No matter how late I go to bed, I still wake up with the chickens!

Question for anyone visiting today - which toothpaste are you all using. I wass using C.E.T Poultry but noticed one of the ingreients is glucose. Would this have any effect of raising the bg?

Re: 6/17 Maggie AMPS 185; +3 188 ATrak

i don't brush the kitty teeth, but can't imagine that it wouldn't have an impact on their BG. they would no doubt swallow some, plus you know it's absorbed through their gums (rub karo on the gums if they go low) so i would want to change.

enjoy your friday!

CET toothpaste has zero effect on bgs :thumbup The glucose oxidase is an enzyme, not a sugar. I brushed Squishy Merlin's teeth all the time with the CET poultry flavored toothpaste with no effect on bgs. You can use the CET seafood tartar control one, too.

Re: 6/17 Maggie AMPS 185; +3 188 Question on toothpaste?

Actually, CET contains glucose oxidase (Aspergillis niger) which is an enzyme. It's the same stuff that's used on urine glucose test strips. Here's some technical info on it. Note that it does contain trace amounts of polysaccarides (i.e., sugars) and could give a false positive reading.

Re: 6/17 Maggie AMPS 185; +3 188

I use C.E.T. for Tess so I started checking. It isn't glucose it is glucose oxidase which is an enzyme which reacts w/ glucose. It is primarily used in making the test strips for urine glucose. It is also an antibiotic resulting from the formation of a type of peroxide when it reacts.
Since its discovery as an "antibiotic" (shown subsequently to be due to peroxide formation) there has been an interest in glucose oxidase, chiefly because of its utility in glucose estimation. Following Keston's report in 1956 of coupling the reaction to peroxidase and a chromogen, (qualitative) glucose "dip-sticks" became available for screening for urine glucose.

Here is another page w/ the complete ingredients list http://www.drugs.com/vet/c-e-t-enzymatic-toothpaste.html Glucose oxidase is the second to the last ingredient.

I found references to it being used in human toothpastes also, Sensodyne and Biotene.

Re: 6/17 Maggie AMPS 185; +3 188

i found sometimes i got a bump in numbers just by virtue of brushing (even when i wasn't using toothpaste, and i was just getting him "comfortable" with brushing).

i imagine the whole process was a little stressful for him and me, and since i didn't have the opportunity to do it when he was a kitten, i always figured he just never really got used to the whole situation and found it generally annoying, i still make him do it anyway.

Re: 6/17 Maggie AMPS 185; +3 188

Morning!

OK Maggie - what's up with those numbers??? A little lower please, OK?

can't help with the toothpaste thing - no way says the manster... Good luck with your research. Looks like you already have some great replies. Good luck with the brushing,. I do wish Mannie would let me....

WOW on the parking lot thing. I hope that works out soon. I too can't blame the neighbors, but also wonder what else could you possibly do?

Have a great day guys!

Re: 6/17 Maggie AMPS 185; +3 188; +9 203

+9 203 Wrong way Maggie! Maybe too much party food last night!

Thanks Squeem3, Sienne, Ann & Tess, Mococo and Michelle for all the feedback on the C.E.T. toothpaste and for explaining that it isn't glucose but is glucose oxidase. Thanks also Sienne and Ann for all the links. I noticed Maggie was a bit high last night and just thought it might be the toothpaste, but not so! She sure does not like anyone messing with her mouth, even the Vet. She has a very tight clench!

Hi Ann: sorry it has taken me all day to get to condos. Maggie....what are you doing up there???? It was nice for you to let your bean sleep this morning but is this how you reward her for being such a great bean?

I use CET poultry toothpaste, too, and have not noticed that it effects Gracie's BG. In fact, I brushed her teeth last night as she was screaming down towards the 40s!! Great explanations from Ann and Sienne!
