Hope you start seeing a little more action on this dose! I remember those couple days we saw greens and thought we were really there.... seems like a distant memory now. But thankfully you are seeing blues, I think he just needs the extra insulin to get the results consistently. And still it is all WAY better than it was a while back, so that is good.

If you don't get to a lot of blues & greens, I would consider raising the dose more often, like every 3rd or 4th day. The problem with going more slowly is their body can keep overcoming the dose, and then you see what you are seeing now (well, at least this is my working hypothesis for the moment, I don't know for sure), where the results on each dose look about the same after a few days. And then you need to increase again. I think the faster you increase (not like every day, but every 3rd day or so) the better chance you have of staying ahead of things.

But still his numbers are fairly good, so it's not like you *have* to do that, I'm just thinking it might give you a better chance at greens & blues and seeing if his pancreas will heal. Based on those couple green days you saw I think there is a good chance - he got really extended duration, so that's a good sign that if you can hit a few green stretches you may see some really rapid improvement. Sometimes all it takes is a few days in greens, but it can take forever to get there to see it. Some of the people who have done best are newbies who overshoot, or maybe just shoot boldly, without knowing any better - not to the point of hypo, but to the point that they see some extended green surfs and then pop their kitties go OTJ before they even know what hit them.

When people start to know what the numbers actually mean, I think there is a natural tendency to go more conservative in the dose. I know that was the case with me - I shot some bigger doses and actually got good results, but didn't understand the risks. Once I understood things better, I got all chickeny and consistently undershot for a long time. I still struggle with advice giving b/c I think we have a lot of kitties here hovering in #s that are just a little too high, but of course no one wants to accidentally advise a dose that is too high.

Ok, pep talk and soap boxing officially over. :)

Yes thats me big chicken.
When we first started I was on the verge of a panic attack every time I gave him insulin or increased and if he was resting I was checking to see if he looked weird or "glassy-eyed" or any thing that might indicate he could be going low too fast or high or just anything to worry about.
I had to take ativan to deal with the first couple of weeks.
Thank goodness I finally started feeling more comfortable about it.
And yes I think sometimes when you don't know as much at least with some newbies ( especially if you listen to some of the vets who have advised people here on PZI with advice such as don't test before shooting, don't feed low carb, your'e testing too much, etc.) you are not as aware of danger and might shoot more and thus get greens faster but being the worrywart I am wasn't ever the case with me.
I will give this dose a few days and see what happens and then up a little if we go blah again.

Awwww. I had no idea - you have seemed so composed and right on top of things, LOL!!!! It's ok to have anxiety about it, but don't let that stop you from following a plan to get him regulated. I think people have an easier time on the Ls b/c they have a written protocol, and you just follow the instructions (well, more or less, I'm sure it's not *quite* that simple). Compared to here, where people are all over the map on how to approach dosing and increases, etc.

But I think if you let the anxiety stop you from giving him the insulin he needs, that's not the solution. I mean you are doing great overall really, but if you can look at the SS and your conclusion is that he needs more insulin, but then you don't do it out of fear, then I would say pop some pills and just do it anyway. I have struggled in the past with some big anxiety problems, and anytime I let that guide my decisions, it's a whopping backfire for me.

The irony for you and for others here, is that when you do get them regulated, it is SUCH a relief. Yes it is scary to be seeing only blues and greens when you aren't used to them, but I think everyone will feel so much better if they can get their cats regulated. For some reason we tend not to find the yellows & pinks scary, but really they are ... a LOT scarier IMO than a 50 say. A cat that is in all blues and maybe a couple yellows but no greens, fine, I'm not going to argue there. But anything above 200 is not a good place for them to be. Not to add to your anxiety :-D I'm just on a kick I guess right now.

It is sad to see several cats hovering in numbers that are higher. Generally speaking, I think people need to get cracking on the insulin increases, or if that is not a good option for whatever reason, then go with a different insulin where hopefully they will have a better chance of being able to do the increases there. I have seen cats get regulated on one of the Ls simply (IMO) b/c the protocol gave their bean an more comfortable way to work up through the doses. We had one who needed something like 6u and she just couldn't get there on PZI, the increases were too scary even at like 2u for her to keep plugging away at them. But once on L, she was able to do it and got her kitty regulated. Sometimes a switch may not be needed due to the insulin itself, but still can be needed to get them regulated.

Thank you Joanna!
I am much better with the anxiety than i used to be, i have panic disorder anyway and have had agrophobia a long time ago. I am SO much better now, don't take meds for it all now, just keep the ativan on hand in case I ever go there again. Panic attacks are the worst...no one knows unless they have experienced one.
Is just hes my baby and the oldest one of my furkids and i was so in fear of making a mistaske in the beginning.
We're doing good now most of the time I don't feel too anxious about his treatment.
Off to open a new thread, for some reason i can't get into my ss last two days, read others are having problems with theirs as well.
