So I went back to 1.25u because I felt like I didn't stay on it long enough the first time. Alska had pretty flat cycles with Lantus and with Levemir they are even flatter. He was in flat 300s through the backup to 1.25 so I raised it this weekend to 1.5u after a few mid-cycle tests showed a flat cycle. Now if he could be flat in the lower 200s I would be happy for now. He wasn't great on 1.5u before so I am pulling a skinny 1.5u to see if smidgen dosing will work. I am celebrating any number below 300 these days.

Otherwise, he is a happy boy! Last week I woke up and found him sleeping on his back with his back legs spread and his front paws curled under - just snoring away in la la land. I have never seen him be so worry-free. Of course, I had to touch him to make sure he wasn't dead. That just never goes away...

You may find that since Alska is probably a lifer on insulin that a sliding scale may work better for him. I use one for Autumn and Cassanova. I also don't vary it by more than a unit. For example Autumn's is 300+ =1u, 200+=.75u, below 200=.5 & double digits = .3u

Now before anyone screams...no it isn't how Levemir is typically dosed but ECID and so far it is working well for my lifers.

My personal opinion is once remission is off the table for a cat you do whatever works to keep them as close to normal numbers as possible.

Oh... now that's an idea I could consider and YES, he is an insulin-lifer. So I could pull 2u and take it upstairs and test and then adjust the dose into the cap and shoot. What a great idea! Thanks Mel.

I do love the "no sting" characteristic of Levemir. I can actually keep the needle in him a little longer to make sure the insulin doesn't flow back out. He doesn't even notice.

Nice to hear Alska is liking the switch to Levemir and sleeping so soundly. ;-) Kitties are just so darn cute! I had a cat that liked to sleep like that on his back with his paws spread out and every once in a while I would have to touch him just to make sure.
