Morning, ~O)

I was hopeful this morning, Zeus took a couple of licks of his regular food... but then he stopped. I gave him some more BF, but he only had a couple of licks. Zeus doesn't even want chicken this morning, his favorite. He drank some water and went to lay down. Obviously no insulin again this morning. I did give him pepcid this morning and cerenia yesterday, and the bupe last night. He didn't like that, he kept smacking his lips and swallowing hard.

My hands are shaking, but I am going to try the syringe and see what happens. If he won't eat I will call the ER vet.

Re: 6/16 Zeus AMBG 63 not eating

You two are in my thoughts. I hope Zeus will let you get some food into him.

Re: 6/16 Zeus AMBG 63 not eating. Back to the ER

Back to the ER vet we go. Syringe feeding didn't go very well, the syringes that I have aren't really big enough, even pureeing the food. I got a couple of squirts in his cheek, but he fought it, and the last one he spit out. I called the ER and they said I can bring him in at 8 (45 min from now), she thinks they might have to keep him. I'm so scared. I went through this with a dog a few years back - the not eating. It was awful.

Please send Zeus more prayers and vines. Thanks everyone!

Thinking good thoughts and sending prayers for this ER visit. I hope they can get Zeus back to eating; as Sienne says, if they have to put a feeding tube in place so that he can get the nourishment he needs to heal, that is a good thing. Many kitties have gone this route to regaining strength and wellness. Sending lots of healing vines for Zeus and calming vines for you.

Re: 6/16 Zeus AMBG 63 - he is staying in the hospital

Thank you everyone, your support is so very important to me and Zeus. The good news is that the Dr. Didn't find anything wrong, other than the issues we already know about.... But he is still dehydrated. They wanted to keep him over night and give him IV fluids, check his electrolytes, and see if they can get him to eat or syringe feed. The bad news is that he is probably going to have to stay there until tomorrow afternoon/night... They wouldn't be able to discharge him until 9 am tomorrow and I have a meeting all morning, plus she said something about bringing him to his regular dr to be monitored tomorrow. I'd rather not stress him out more than I have to, and I think picking him up to bring him to another office that he'll have to stay at would be stressful.

Momma is stressed. Its odd how quiet the house feels. I'm also worried about his insulin/shots/testing etc. I told her that I'd like to keep him on the same schedule if possible, and she said they would try but that a couple of hours either way wouldn't be a big deal.

Kathie, Wrapping healing vines around Zeus, please little guy, feel hungry. Hoping you are able to get through this calmly. Thinking of you guys all day & praying.

(((Kathie))) Thanks for the update. That good news is that the Dr. didn't find anything wrong, other than the issues they already know about. The fluids should really help. Prayers and vines that they get him eating and you see improvement. Comfort vines and prayers for you, too.

I agree with Ann - it's good news that his labs are in good shape. And, Zeus will have 24 hour monitoring which is more than what even you can do for him.

Did you think to ask them what insulin they will use if his numbers go up? Often ERs/hospitals will use R since it's short acting and they are monitoring. That will make it easier for you to get back on your schedule.

They didn't say anything about shooting a different insulin, I gave them our lev pen, which they said to bring. I will have to ask about the R... Thanks Sienne, I didn't even think to ask that question.

So sorry you all are going thru this  Hoot and I are sending strength and healing vines to you. :YMHUG:

(((hugs))) sending healing vines, feel hungry vines and calming vines to you. Try to rest....

Hugs Kathie. I am glad that they didn't find anything else wrong. Perhaps it would be good for him to stay the day, get the fluids etc that he needs. I know how worried and stressed you are. Many hugs to you, and healing vines for Zeus.

((((Kathie))))

Thanks for updating us. I'm glad the labs are good.

I'd be sure and stay on them about feeding. When my cats have been hospitalized, I have found that they just put a plate of food in their cage and leave it. I always have ended up going over and feeding my cats myself...even syringe feeding. It's as if they think the IV fluids are enough and once they start feeling better, they will eat. My cats are all easy to syringe feed but it's like they don't want to take the time to do it. And these are expensive specialty/ER hospitals.

I would specifically ask when they fed, how they fed, how much, etc. I hope they will do as they say.

Sending tons of healing vines to Zeus.

Hi Kathie,

I'm so sorry to hear about Zeus. Prayers have been sent up :YMSIGH: It sounds like he's in good hands, but as mentioned above, inquire/keep on them about feeding him.

If he isn't able to get his insulin and his BG goes up, his BG will always come down, right? (of course, you know that but I felt it worth mentioning).

You and yours and the ER team are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sending Zeus virtual hugs and scritches <3.

Hang in there and breathe....

Sending feel much better today vines to Zeus and I hope he gets to come home today and eats his fuds for you.
