Re: 6/16 Tidus AMPS 215
I thought I read somewhere to wait 5-10 days or cycles. There is so much information sometimes I forget where I read it and what I read. I will give it a few more days.
For those that don't know....Tidus was returned to NYC animal control (the same place his owners adopted him from 10 years ago) NYC A/C is a horrific place. They actually are known for MAKING animals sick so they can then euthanize them (since well animals can't be euthanized) I follow a lot of articles about them and do know a vet that works in a division of NYC A/C and he pretty much verified that all the horrible stuff you hear is true.
We only know that his owners turned him in for "diabetes" related issues, the normal peeing outside the litter box. There is NO vet information prior to around May 19 when he was surrendered. Being in NYC A/C in itself is pretty much a death sentence, but he was put on their Death Row list which usually means there's issues. I've seen other Rescue groups take animals off that list that pretty much need their life saved. Tidus was pulled by another rescue and they kept him in Manhattan at a vet's office. He seemed to be doing well there a few days in he started with projectile vomiting and diarrhea, they said they gave him IV fluids, that was on a friday night, Memorial day weekend. He seemed to be "Ok" the rest of the weekend and although they wanted him to leave Saturday I was not able to pick him up until Tuesday night. He was with me one day and the bloody diarrhea started. I rushed him to my vet who at that point did not feel real confident that Tidus would live. He was extremely lethargic and dehydrated. He is skin and bones. You can feel his whole vertebrae. If he didn't have fur you would be able to see his ribs, I'm sure. He stayed at my vet for a few days and came back to my home on Saturday afternoon. Monday I was back in the vet's he was dehydrated again but not as bad. I switched him to raw food and started giving sub q. My vet wanted sub q 100ml daily to make sure he didn't "crash" again. He seemed to be doing well after a few days, poop back to normal so sub q's are "as needed/ every other day-ish". He is not 100%, I don't think yet. Since I don't know his history I have nothing to compare him to but I can see in his eyes something is still "off". I wrote the other day I think there was a point that he gave up his will to live.
Coming to my home is not easy. He is a great cat, very little hissing if any, but I have quite a few cats so it's overwhelming for a newbie. He is adjusting very well, though. He is even starting to eat with the others at times but I do feed him alone, as he is still a little food aggressive depending on how hungry he is.
I know my vet ran a lot of labs which I would think kidney function was a part of. But I will double check that.
