Max was crying for food shortly before 5:00 a.m. so I tested him. Of course the bounce was already starting. I gave him a few pieces of Young Again and went back to bed. He quieted down. Darn it but he's starting back in pink today.


No air bubbles in the syringe today but I have no idea why. Happy Father's Day. I miss my dad today. It's going to be a tough one for my mom. She already started being depressed yesterday.

So Max got a lot of HC last night, or this morning, to prevent him dropping under 50 and we succeeded with that. Now I wonder if doing that is helping to cause him to bounce or is this just his MO?

Thanks Kim. I wouldn't mind the late night if it meant Max would stay in safe numbers and stop this crazy bouncing.

His weight is going in the wrong direction. He was again 15 lbs this morning. He now could stand to lose one pound. I guess treats and food to keep his BG up are adding up fast. I think the gravy plus tony amount if food is used last night might be the answer. I can't get him to move except from my bedroom to the bathroom and back. He won't play. He never used to be so interested in food and would let Tiffany eat his all the time.

So it's looking like he does need more juice to help clear these bounces. I'll see what happens tonight and tomorrow and increase tomorrow night if the dosing advisors think it's a good idea. He still might clear this bounce today or tonight. His nadir has been later last week after bouncing.

Here's what I don't know. I don't know if that drop from +1 to +2 is causing the bounce instead of the lower numbers. The +1 was a food spike but it's still a good drop from 126 to 69....almost 60 mg/dL/hour. A drop like that could trigger the bounce. There is nothing you could have done, though, because he went up from the food, you tested one hour after the food spike. You couldn't have done anything differently. There would have been no reason to test at +1.5.

Last night was the lowest he's gotten on this dose and he's starting to clear his bounces faster.

The food won't cause the bounce. But what I wonder, and this is purely 100% speculation, if the extra carbs causes the insulin to not have the normal duration that it would and so numbers creep up as you would expect for decreased duration and THEN the bounce starts on top of that. So it makes it seem like the bounce is causing much higher numbers. I don't know the answer to that question but I have observed this with Gracie sometimes on a dose where she doesn't bounce very high. I got this :idea: :idea: from a few night cycles where I added just a drop of karo to her 10% because I was exhausted and just had to get her up so I could sleep. We have no way of knowing but it just makes me wonder if it's all bounce or if it's also decreased duration due to the food PLUS a bounce.

Let's take it a cycle at a time for the next day and see what he does. I'm wondering if he's going to clear the bounce again tonight.

No dosing advice or answers from me, but I had to stop in and say that Max had a good day yesterday so I hope he clears this bounce quickly.

Marje, if it goes according to the past, he will have an active cycle tonight as he as been flat since his a.m. shot. I didn't use any karo last night, only gravy from a soulitic pouch and a little Trader Joe's 10% each time. His appetite is off today. I want him to eat less calories so I didn't put any S&C on top of his food tonight. He didn't touch it so I put some of the freeze dried on top and he ate a little. I think he feels good because he just came over for head butts, wanted to be petted and is purring really loud.

I wonder if his weight is affecting his BG? He's gained about 6-8 oz. since this started. He only eats 2 cans of ff a day but he gets 14-1/3 a can of Gerbers, the fd chicken, 1 or 2 S&C on his food up to 4 times a day so it does add up. My vet thought when we took him off dry food he would lose a little. He's just not at all active so he doesn't need too many calories I guess. I've read that most diabetic have the opposite issue, needing to gain. Max never memorized the rule books, LOL.

While it's possible his weight has some effect, I think he's just bouncy like so many others, inc my LBG :-D
