Good morning!!! Sending healing vines and prayers to all who need them today.

Gracie is doing well....happy, purry girl. I took her dose up just a hair the other day and she got her first under 50 yesterday but then bounced back up last night. And then zoom zoom down this morning. I actually think the problem is not the dose but the dosing. I don't like the fluctuations.....she usually gets such nice, flat lev cycles but at least the ups and downs don't seem to bother her. Aside from FD, she has been licking and scratching a bit lately and I wonder if she has some allergy stuff going on but her coat looks beautiful and is not dry and skin not flaky. I also got some ledum 30c to put on her ears. It's a great homeopathic remedy for punctures. Gus's chiro vet suggested it recently for Gus for his subq sites so I also decided it would be good for Gracie.

On the dosing, I had a box of MJ syringes where the needle ended way up in the hub and now I'm done with those. In the current box, they are down a bit further but not all the way down like the old ones used to be. And so there is some fluctuation in the amount of insulin she is getting but it's basically out of my control. It's frustrating. Just when I know the accuracy is good with the calipers, the amount in the hub varies and there is no way to measure that. I experimented with just pushing in the plunger until it felt like it stopped but it varied, too, as sometimes I thought it stopped but it was not all the way up and it's impossible to see when the needle is in the kitty so I just push hard and expel all the insulin.

The girls are hanging together today! :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: Sorry for the frustration on the syringes. i used to think our nicro doses were a pain, now I'm glas they are small enough to count drops! :roll:

I hear you on the MIA, me too and now I'm off for 2 days. I will be soooo behind!

Marje, I think you are right. I was thinking the same thing with Daphne's dose. She has always been very flat, but with this one drop dose, the syringes are not consistent and we get a drop, to a half drop, every time. I refill the syringe with water after I give it to her, just to see what I actually gave her (I can put the plunger right on the line, which will give a drop,) but sometimes it's only a half drop. There is just no other reason I can think of for the crazy numbers Daphne has been having.

This is so frustrating isn't it? We are doing everything we are supposed to do...

It is frustrating, Barb. It's grrrrrrrr frustrating....and it affects many of us. I'm just not sure of the solution.

Ok Baby Dumpling!! Almost time to onset so do a good job and try not to come down too low or too fast :-D

Hi Marje, nice cycle for Gracie today. Bummer on the syringes. It's much easier with just three drops but even with that, I practice sometimes three to four times trying to get it exact! We can judge by the lines. Where do you buy the ledum 30c? I notice Maggie's ear looks sore sometimes even though I do the Neosporin. Have a nice afternoon.

I dont know about the MJ syringes, because we dont have that brand in Hongkong. We've got the BD only & no half markings. So far I did not find anything wonky with the BD. Since you are using the caliper to measure, will it be better if you use the BD instead of the MJ? MJ does sounds very wonky. I was thinking about ordering half marking MJ online & send over but now that really made me confused on what to get. confused_cat

My water ecology friend (professor at U of Kentucky) in Lexington said to dilute the insulin, maybe drawing out two days worth of insulin at a time and adding water. I thought she was entirely too casual about it all. And she is a cat person. Nice green cycle today, Princess Gracie. :mrgreen:

Helen: I've used the BDs before and the ones in the US are as about as inaccurate as the MJs plus they get bubbles that are hard to get rid of. AND...trying to equate a dose in one brand of syringe to another is not easy considering the inaccuracies of both and Gracie's sensitivity to small dose changes.

Anne and I were both profs at UK before NAU. :lol: :lol: Don't get me started. We were known as "the girls who didn't adjust well". Gail absolutely knows her microbiology but I don't think she knows anything insulin or feline diabetes. Bless her heart.

What a great day for Miss Gracie!! I hear you on the syringes...what a pain trying to get the microdosing right.

I am also interested in where you get the stuff that you are putting on Gracie's ears.
 
That's too funny, Liz!

I get the Ledum 30C at Sunflower Market in Tucson but you should also be able to get it at Whole Foods or any Health Food Store. Just take one of the little pills, dissolve it in a 1 oz dropper bottle of pure water (bottled, etc). Let it dissolve. Then I put one good sized drop in my hands and rub on the edge of Gracie's ears. You can give it orally on the tongue (never shoot it in the throat..it has to be absorbed) but it does have sugar although everyone I spoke to said it's minimal....but I don't want to risk it. The most important thing is for it to be absorbed by the soft tissues.
 
Great day for Gracie, Marje! And I just noticed that she and Jinx have the same PMPS tonight. Would be great if he continues to mimic her numbers :-D :-D
 
Ok, I should clarify... I would like Jinx to mimic Gracie's numbers with the exception of when she goes below ~45 or so :-D :-D
