Where does this boy think he's going? Come in back down Pey :)
I had to switch his food last night because he wasn't wanting to eat and now he's eating like a pig. I'm not complaining though because he needs to gain a couple pounds.
I fed him thru the night to help his thru nadir. And he ate at +10. Could this be affecting our AMPS?

Switched from 4% Wellness Brand to 5% Nine Lives

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355

Diabetes gave Max a huge appetite. He was chubby and now has gained weight which I need to get off him but it's hard because he is so lazy. Peyton is bouncing after being green. It can take up to 72 hours to clear. Last time Peyton cleared the bounce really fast so that could happen as well. Eating at +10 can effect his AMBG but with his poor appetite, I would have fed Peyton too. When Max won't stop meowing, I feed him unless he is really low.

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355

I think I jinxed us! I shouldn't have said he was eating like a pig. When I went back in his "dining room", aka bathroom, he had only eaten half of the food he WAS devouring. I opened a different flavor and he ate half of that. At least he's eating and I have a large supply of options now.

Elise, did you get some sleep last night?

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355

Max wasn't so hungry today either. Maybe it's due to all he ate the other days. Yes, I got to sleep and feel revived. Max's numbers are high again so I will likely need to increase tonight and the dance begins anew, sigh. He actually needs to LOSE weight. My lower back is hurting this morning and I think it's from dragging him out from under the bed and lifting his 15 pounds so many times as I don't have back issues. I hope you have a great day!

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355

Peyton's keeping his paws crossed for an uneventful day for the both of them :)

When I walked in from work Peyton was in the front room and he hasn't been in there but maybe a couple times in the past week. He was meowing for food and then I gave him some but he didn't eat it. Ugh! He seemed better than he's been in two weeks. If it's not one thing it's something else.

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355

the amps is a bounce - it's too impressive to be just from feeding after the nadir, although that might've contributed to it. hard to say.

he'll come back down.

if he's back to his good weight (i think you said he is?) then you'll want to just divvy up the food throughout the cycle, rather than adding more on. If he still needs to gain weight, then what you're doing is all good.

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355

He is still too skinny. Needs to put on a couple pounds or more. Are you saying when he gets to a healthy weight don't feed through nadir unless needed? Since his kidney diagnosis he doesn't eat much at one time. HE likes several small meals a day. Also since his kidney diagnosis he will wake me up 1-3 times a night to eat. Sometimes he's more of a daytime eater and other times he would rather eat more at night.

Clearing fast again. Wait 20 and test again or let him eat then test again?

Hi Julie, I am not qualified to give dosing advice as I am new myself, but I thought you might want to link to your last condo:

It may not hurt to feed Peyton a few tsp of low carb food and test again, has it been 15 or 20 since your last post? Breathe deeply, your doing a great job.

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355, +7 58

Great minds think alike! I thought about it and added it before I read your post. Thank you for writing. It always helps to know someone is there.

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355, +7 58

Well I remember how scared I was when Tiger first hit a 48 and the forum blanked out! Do you have all the Dealing With Low Numbers pages printed out? I'm sure you do, but thought I would offer just in case. You're doing a great job, Peyton is in good hands here.

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355, +7 58

I do but I still freak out. Lol
I think I'm going to do something wrong. I would really freak out if he went below 50 and the site went down. Was you!!! I was lucky that when that happened there were several people to help me. I basically know what to do if he gets below 50 but it's the just above numbers that scare me. I don't know if I should feed low carb and test again or stall feeding, wait and retest

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355, +7 58

It looks like Peyton is about at nadir? So, it looks like yesterday you were okay to feed some low carb food and re-test. And hey, I hear you about being scared you will do something wrong, but it supposedly gets easier the farther we get into real life experience with this diabetes thing. It's a tough disease to manage, you're doing great!

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355, +7 58, +7.5 LC, +8 79

Great job and good decision to feed lc food. He should surf or go back up at this point. I remember the first time the board was down and I had to do this alone. It came in handy in the middle of the night when everybody was fast asleep.

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355, +7 58, +7.5 LC, +8 79

Thank you Elise and Ruth! Should I retest now, eat or let his ears rest?

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355, +7 58, +7.5 LC, +8 79

I'll just go ahead and feed him his full meal since he was due an hour ago :)

Re: 6/14 Peyton AMPS 355, +7 58, +7.5 LC, +8 79

Sorry I'm not home but just checking in. You can feed and I would test too so you get an idea if he is heading back up. It takes 20-30 minutes for the food to make an impact so it will give you am idea. You don't have to but it might give an idea about tonight. If it's too late for this then no worries.

Re: 6/14 Peyton PMPS 233

Good thing I bought a variety of low carb foods! He decided he didn't like his newest food so we switched tonight. Thankfully he are so we could inject. Whew!

Re: 6/14 Peyton PMPS 233 Timing Question?

I give Max a quarter of a can of ff and sometimes top it with a piece or two of Stella & Chewys or freeze dried crumbs.

Re: 6/14 Peyton PMPS 233 Timing Question?

I test and feed about 15 minutes before insulin. Then I give more food at +1 and +2 or 3 depending on how much he eats. Max is used to gazing and eating whenever he wants. That I'm told would be fine if in remission but we can't feed 2 hours before and not much in the second six hours unless they are low so I'm trying to adjust to that. At the beginning I was trying to give him a little food 4:00 which is 3 hours before insulin. I honestly don't know if withholding the food then has made any difference.

Re: 6/14 Peyton PMPS 233 Timing Question?

I haven't been told when to feed and when not to besides not eating 2 hours before preshot. I try to space Peyton's out as much as I can and hold off if I know I will be testing soon. Since he needs to gain weight I feel he needs to eat except between +10 +12. I just wasn't sure if there was a rule about how much time to give between preshot and insulin. So far it's been about 10-15 minutes for me.

Re: 6/14 Peyton PMPS 233 Timing Question?

No rule about that. Since he needs to gain weight I would feed him when he is hungry. They say that inn the second 6 hours the insulin is decreasing in the body so try not to feed then to avoid spikes. However every cat is different and they don't know anything about the rules.

Re: 6/14 Peyton PMPS 233,+2.5 166,+7 62,+7.6 61

Fed LC after BG 62. Next reading BG 61. Fed LC again and rechecking

Oh no! I fell asleep after +7.6! He a just woke me up to eat so I thought a little would be good since he's at +9.25 and won't be able to eat in a little while. I hope we can have smooth sailing today. I'm supposed to go take my Dad to celebrate Fathers Day.
