Well madam is being a drama queen again, teaching me that she should have had the first dental. Woke me at 5am making weird noise like a person smacking their lips. After several laps round/under the bed I got her and she was drooling quite badly. She's been eating ok though I'd noticed some minor drooling on and off last few weeks, which I assumed was nausea and have been giving ondansetron as needed. This seemed different so called the emergency vet - they said didn't sound like an ER visit but get in with her own vet, and give her ondansetron - she ate a little.

Saw our own vet at 9:30 and it's dental issues (last year I learned drooling = nausea but Minnie says NOT TODAY, BUDDY) - a loose tooth, a bit of blood and gingivitis, probably a resorptive lesion and the root is gone :( They're trying to find an earlier appointment than what we have, July 20.

In the meantime, she had fluids and they are checking blood and urine, and she's getting bupe twice a day - it's working already, she has been eating well again and is very affectionate!

So much for getting all cocky about the rapid reductions! :cat::banghead:. Curious what her numbers will be like after the dental, her first since diabetes diagnosis.

Poor Minnie! Any dental specialist vets near you? I hope you get her looked at sooner.
No dental specialists that I'm aware of, and when I asked they said they were used to doing dentals on diabetics...but now you mention it, I'll do some research - I really want to get her in sooner, poor little thing.

Question - how old is a geriatric cat? Minnie is 10 years 5 months. I'm only just looking at the invoice for today and they ordered a geriatric panel. It's a LOT more expensive than previous bloodwork/urine tests she's had before. Not sure if it's because she's getting something different (why a geriatric now but not 4 months ago?) or if it's because costs have gone up - the dental estimate went up significantly between December and June. Thanks.

A "geri" panel here includes some extra tests, including for thyroid. A 10 year old cat it's a good idea to get those tests done.
