I've been slacking in my posting of Doodle's numbers again  - but he's doing well and his SS is up to date.

He's a little bouncy and I'm not sure if he's due for another dose reduction or not.
He's tricky... sometimes fools me into thinking he needs one when he doesn't .
But I think the next day or so will answer that question.

Tomorrow we go back to the vet for yet another BP check and more bloodwork. He'll have his potassium, magnesium and serum aldosterone checked.
I am sooo hoping that his potassium is up in the normal range again - this has gone on for long enough!

My vet called today and said that after further reveiw she is not sure that his adrenal glands are not larger than they should be and will be asking another collegue for some input. (I haven't gotten the report yet so I haven't been able to do any of my own research)
I have been considering getting a phone consult with Cornell - I think I can send them his records and have them take a look and give me their opinion on what may be going on with him.
If anyone else has ever done this I'd be curious about the experience.

I hope you can get some answers for what might be up with Doodle. I'm glad to read he is doing well otherwise, though. Have a good Monday!

Testing the serum magnesium isn't worth it, IMO. Serum magnesium levels are a poor reflection of total body magnesium, so I would just supplement, as I mentioned in your last post. Even if the levels are normal, you won't have an answer on whether or not he is hypomagnesemic.

How were the adrenal glands imaged?

If you would be consulting about his potassium, I'm sorry if I'm being too persistent here, but TBH I think they are going to tell you to supplement magnesium in any cat, esp. a diabetic, with refractory hypokalemia (low potassium). I would clear that up first (by supplementing and retesting). Just my $.02.

Hi Jess persistence is fine :) - you know you can say whatever you need to say (however strongly you need to say it) to me. I just really appreciate you looking in on us.
I will insist that my vet give me a dose for a magnesium supplement tomorrow.

Doodle's adrenal glands were imaged via ultrasound.
The suspicion is hyperaldosteronism - which would be the reason for the Cornell consult.
I know it's a stretch... but he has refractory hypokalemia, hypertension , and hypernatremia, as well as fragile skin and excessive shedding.
