So Wonton just tested at 41...I just gave her some HC w/gravy and will check her in 30 mins. First time I've seen her this low, I don't see any symptoms that I can notice.

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

There is a stickie on handling low numbers, I'll find and send in a minute. When below 50, I test every 15-20 until you get two tests above 50, then test every 45-60 minutes. Use just a little bit of HC so you don't fill Wonton up. I'm sure a more experienced person will be along soon since you have the 911 up. Stay calm and keep breathing!

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

Thanks Anne, I'll test in 15 mins. like you say....*breathing....

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

I printed off this sticky early on, so when Zener dropped into the 40s, I would be able to read it easily with the papers right in front of me when I was having a panic attack. I'm sure someone more experienced will come along soon. Leave the 911 icon up so you will get immediate attention. Hang in there!

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

OK, thank you Anne. She's not acting any differently, was even cleaning herself. I wonder if she doesn't feel well, just thinking to myself...

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

Wow, 28! Did you put the karo syrup on his gums? or just give him small portions of HC?
Is it a bad sign if they are going to sleep?

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

I have to call it a night shortly, but one very important thing to remember: when you give Wonton the HC, don't give her too much at a time - maybe a tablespoon, tops. If you give her too much too early, she may not be hungry later on when you might need her to eat (Oops....just read that Anne already said that - but it's worth repeating!!)

And, because Wonton dropped below 50, this means an automatic decrease for Wonton - congrats!!!

Keep breathing...you've got this!!

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

Good catch! The 40s usually aren't actually dangerous, we just don't want them to go lower, many cats dont even show hypo signs in the 30s. You've gotten good advice. If you are feeding gravy HC, try just giving the gravy so she doesn't fill up..

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

Good catch!! A teaspoon or two of HC and retest in 20 - 30 min.

It's unlikely you'll see symptoms if Wonton is just dipping his toes in these kind of low numbers. You just don't want to leave him there.

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

I would recommend less than a tablespoon, like a teaspoon, especially if it's every 15 or 20 minutes. Well done!

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

OK, thank you Amy, I'll remember to give very small portions. Looks like I'll be up for awhile. Thanks for checking in with me and for all the times you are there for me  So she'll be going down from .5 to .25 starting tomorrow morning, yeay!
Have a good night!

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

Thank you for all the great advice and support...I so appreciate it :-D . I feel much better. Almost time for a test...

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

When we have to stay up late at night testing and feeding like this, people call it a PJ party, for pajama party. You're doing great!

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41

I'll be up for quite a while if you need help. Please post your next test. If she's not above 50, lather, rinse, repeat....in other words test her, feed her, and do it again until she's safely up.

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59

Just saw the 59. Can you tell me what you ga w her pleas? If you gave her karo, it stays in the system 1-2 hours and then numbers can come back down. Could you retest in 30 mins please and post?

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59

She's already up to 59... Won't need to lather, rinse, repeat, LOL. So I don't feed anything and test in 30 mins? Should I do this until she seems safely above 50 for a few hours, right?

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59

Hi Marje, I gave her Friskies chkn w/gravy...did the trick.

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59

Don't assume that numbers won't wobble around. Even with HC food, once the food wears off, numbers can drop again.
DO NOT become complacent. If numbers have risen after one or two tests, it’s important to continue testing. Numbers may bobble up and down as the HC food and/or Karo wear off. DO NOT get one test where your cat has risen from low numbers into the 50s and go to sleep or leave the house. You are putting your cat in a risky situation. When in doubt, leave HC food out.

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59

Yes, understand, thanks Sienne..I guess I meant by did the trick is it got her out of the low 40's. I will continue to test her and give her HC if/when she goes below 50. The past few nights I've been more lax with testing since she's been doing so nicely, I should remember how they can keep us on our toes.

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59

Good. Yes...I'd retest in 30 just to be sure she's continuing up and if so, give her an hour. And yes, numbers can wobble with gravy; I just thought you gave her karo.

Good job!

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59 +5.5=81

She went from 59 to 81 in 30 mins. This could be a bounce, maybe? Or just the wobbly results of HC....will test in 30 mins. I keep waking her from a nice peaceful sleep which is what I sooo want to do. Will set my alarm clock...

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59 +5.5=81

You can give her an hour if you like. Grab a nap. I'll be up still in an hour...then we can see if it's a bounce starting or not. Ok?

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59 +5.5=81

OK, thank you Marje, Wonton and I appreciate your looking out for us. Will be back in an hour...zzzzz

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59 +5.5=81

Congrats on the dosecrease! Mr. Kink is in the same boat - just decreased to .25u this morning. You're doing a great job handling the low numbers!

Re: 6/13 Wonton PMPS 82 +4=41 +5=59 +5.5=81

Just saw this as I am a late night sometimes..Looks great that Wonton went up to 80--Did he wobble & come down any??--My trick is to add a little water to the HC so that I can give a few tsps of the HC gravy, thereby leaving some room for more feedings & not filling them up..It does bring kitty up, and you can give some HC with actual food chunks later in the evening, & bg's will start to go up..
You did a great job tonite--Pat yourself on the back
And you got a dose reduction too( Reducie!!! :-D )
Great Job tonite!! Hope you enjoyed your first PJ party--Hugs & Love from us!!

Re: 6/13 Wonton +4=41 +5=59 +5.5=81 +7=90

Wonton is up to 90...wonder if it's a bounce? Thanks Roni and Caitlin. Nope, she didn't wobble any, just a steady rise. Thanks for the HC advice and the pats on the back   And congrats to Mr Kink on the decrease!

Re: 6/13 Wonton +4=41 +5=59 +5.5=81 +7=90

No...it doesn't look like a bounce yet. At the end of the lantus cycle, they will start to come up until they start having overlap. She might still bounce but usually a bounce goes up faster than this.

I know you are tired.....we like to see two rising, non food influenced numbers before you stop testing. How long ago did you feed last?

Re: 6/13 Wonton +4=41 +5=59 +5.5=81 +7=90

Thanks Melanie  I'm surprised to see so many late nighters.

Re: 6/13 Wonton +4=41 +5=59 +5.5=81 +7=90

I think if you get one more test and she's still coming up, you should be ok.

Overlap is when one shot is diminishing as another is onsetting. So instead of seeing kitty going up at the end of the cycle, you see the curve start to flatten out. If you look at Gracies SS (she is in lev), when she's really settling into a dose, you can't tell when one cycle stops and the next starts.

It's important for each caregiver to know their cats onset, nadir, and duration.

Yes...some nights there are a few people on. Dyana and Sienne usually take the mornings when I'm still sleeping as they are on east coast/central time and I pick up the evenings when they are sleeping as I'm on west coast time. Then we all try to pop in during the day as much SS we can.

Wonton is at 100, I just gave her some LC as she seemed to have an upset stomach. She's now exploring the bdrm and I think it's safe to get some sleep for a few hours before I get up for work. Thank you Marje and all for your support, it means alot!! :YMHUG:

Hi Amy, Yes, it was a late one! I don't drink caffeinated bevs too often but this morning I needed the jump start ~O) ~O)
Wonton tested at 103 this morning. I reduced her to .25u and her usual LC, will see how she likes it. I've been thinking I should run home at lunchtime to check her in case she could be bouncing, but I would think she would have gone higher than 100. Your thoughts?
