We were gone since last pm. DPS was here for the last 3 shots. Tuscany seems same. Limping but seemed glad to see us. Gave us lots of purrs, licks and sat with DH for their couch time - holding hands like they do.
I don't have time tonight - but would like some thoughts regarding a few comments in the posts from the other day (news from the onc, - probable sarcoma, poor prognosis - maybe a few months).
A few had comments about sugar cats with cancer can have what they want...... Are we talking lets go hog wild and give them whatever - and damn the sugar?? Are we talking within reason?? Are we talking a little here and there - but more as she gets worse to help her cont to eat?? Are we talking - don't worry about getting good numbers - just keep her yellow ?
The other thing I'd like to pick peoples brains about is pain management. DH and I are of same mind that if she can't walk - then she has no QOL and that is it. What about pain management between now and then?? She is uncomfortable - seems mostly with walking. Does some licking of the alien and sometimes some shifting when laying to get more comfortable. Should we use bupe now?? Should we wait?? Or if we are needing pain meds then it is a QOL and should be pts?? I don't think she necessarily needs the bupe now - but will probably get some by the weeks end from vet (we are gone for 9 days and would like dps have option should things get worse while we are gone). Does anyone have experience with small doses of bupe? The only time we used was after last dental. She was stoned from it.
I am thinking that I will need to narrow her scope of travel in house. Bring the litter box into her living zone (and my kitchen nook area
). FIgure the less she has to walk the better it will be for her. Heck, was thinking about paving the kitchen in piddle pads..... The only trouble with moving a box to this site - I don't want Josie using it - getting used to a box there cause when Tuscany is gone - the box is back in the laundry room.
I am also thinking that I want to start telling Tuscany stories. You would think that after 17 years I should have alot - there's some but not an over abundance. Tuscany was a 2nd child. She, being a calico, has been an independant cuss since day 1. I saw her in a pet shop - not really looking for another cat but she caught my eye - her beautiful colors. She, from day 1, was not a cat that you could hold on her back and until the last few years anytime you picked her up to cuddle you would get straight armed stiff almost right away. Now she does let us hold her - but won't sit on our laps - but beside us. I thought when I got her that was a good quality - the not wanting to be cuddled cause Merlot was such a lover I figured he'd appreciate not having to compete for the attention.
OK, got to get to bed. Have not slept at home in two nights and need a good night sleep. Will try to catch up later this week before we leave (you know between the packing, the bash at the zoo, work, getting bills paid.......)
