What would you go with? 17 units don't seem to be enough and 17.5 seems to be too much.
Would you go with 17.25?

This is just my thoughts, because I don't have experience with high dose cats, so hopefully those that do will comment soon. I just think that if you're going to do a reduction that 0.25 is only a teeny percentage of the current dose.

I hate it when they seem to be in between doses. I've had to tweak Furball's dose by fattening and making a skinny dose. I'm not sure how that would work with a high dose cat though.

I too fatten and skinny Neko's dose, though she's not currently on the higher doses. Another thing to consider, there's nothing to say you have to reduce with that 48. It's a high 40's, he come up with just one touch of HC. Some people with longer term diabetics will wait for multiple times under 50 before reducing. One option is to wait for a second or third time under 50 before reducing, to make sure he's really telling you he's ready for a reduction. If he goes lower and you have to work to get him up, then that might be his way of saying he really wants a reduction. Or you could try 17.25 and see if it makes a difference.

Well gave the 17.5 units tonight. I probably did this wrong but gave a tsp. of HC in with his LC supper. His PS was 86. Guess now will have to see what it does. Probably bounce him sky high. I hope not. Just didn't want him to go too low.
