Good Morning everyone!
Tessie Lou, TJ and I are sitting on the screen porch, watching a storm come in. I LOVE a storm--it's getting dark, the air is cool, you can smell the rain that's about to fall. Reminds me of many camping trips huddled in a tent in the rain in the middle of nature. There's that little element of danger that adds to the "magic" of it all...

Well, anyway, this morning I decided to cancel Tessie's vet appt for today, and instead am going to call the vet and ask if it is even necessary to bring her in for another exam before doing a biopsy. What's the point? The growth has not changed after 2 weeks of ABs. If the biopsy does show mammary cancer, there is very little that can be done other than make her comfortable. I have been in touch with one FDMB member who's been through it, and chemo was not advised for the little time it bought. Vet has already said surgical removal would only spread the cancer. So, there's no big rush to get it done.

Then, to top it all off, they have closed my main route to the vet because of the impending flood waters expecting to wash out parts of the interstate here. That means another 20 miles out of the way, and another 30 minutes of driving time. And with her low AMPS this morning, we're just going to stay home and monitor her numbers.

Well, that's my day so far! Better run, my laptop's getting a few rain drops on it!

Have a good day, all!

Re: 6/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 144 - Postponing Vet Appt

Hi guys .. I'm sorry to hear that the AB's didn't decrease the size of the lump in tessie lou .. I know that is what we were all hoping for ..

Re: 6/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 144 - Postponing Vet Appt

Sandy - Sounds like a relaxing day. I heard you guys were getting rain again. My family said central Iowa got rain over the weekend again, but nothing like you guys are getting.

I hope you get a chance to talk to your vet. I'm so sorry that it hasn't changed. I know it has been a long two weeks for you and you have remained hopeful.

What nice numbers for Tessie Lou this morning.

Have a good day and stay dry!

Re: 6/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 144 - Postponing Vet Appt

What a great amps for Tessie Lou this morning. YAY!!!

I am right up there with you on the storm thing - I too love them.

I am also sorry that the AB's have not done anything with the growth. I know you were hoping that it would. I think too I'd get the biopsy done, have your answer as too just what it is, and then move forward. Good luck! I don't blame you either for not wanting to put in the extra drive time due to closed roads. Flood waters aren't something to mess with. I do hope that improves for you too.

have a great day guys!

Re: 6/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 144 - Postponing Vet Appt

Have you found a good forum on feline cancer? I wish I had experience and could provide any helpful advice. I don't know what I would have done without amazing forums though - FDMB for diabetes, asthma relief and inhaled meds for Asthma, and assisted feeding for Maverick's peg tube and recovery from FHL and for our dog - the canine congestive heart failure group. Without forums every single diagnosis would have been so much harder to do things right and much more overwhelming.

Sending lots of hugs.

Re: 6/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 144 - Postponing Vet Appt

Well, at +4 she's only gone down to 126. Nice and easy...

Thanks, Devon, guess it wasn't meant to be...

Melissa, yes, we're getting some rain, but the real event is going to be the flood, if the levees don't hold. Everyone is very nervous around here. Yes, it has been a long two weeks with Tessie Lou's growth, but now we need to take the next step of finding out if it's really cancer.

Hi Michelle, yes, Tessie's numbers have been just beautiful for quite awhile now. She hasn't even had a 300 for over two weeks--amazing. But, it could be the cancer doing it, so, hard to know how to feel. Anyway, yes, it's time for the biopsy, although as you can imagine, I dread it terribly. With a diagnosis, it's so final. Guess that's why I'm in now big hurry to have it. But we must.

Hi Karrie, I haven't gotten that far yet, but I sure agree wtih you on the forums. The support and knowledge is priceless.

I got a cute video of Tessie and TJ this morning. I'll try to figure out how to post it...

Re: 6/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 144 - Postponing Vet Appt

I love watching storms come in....something magical about all that power. We sit out a lot in our screened in Lanai and watch the afternoon thunderstorms build up during the summer....just spectacular to watch.

Sorry to hear the ab didn't do what we hoped they would do.....best of luck when you do have the biopsy done. Sometimes knowing what you are up against is better than the waiting and wondering.

Re: 6/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 144 - Postponing Vet Appt

Hi Sandy, I'm sure you made the right decision. There is no need to have another exam if you are going to get the biopsy anyway. Go with the biopsy and know what you are dealing with. I am very sorry that the antibiotics did not have an effect. Perhaps the wrong a/b was used? Anyway, you are doing the right thing.

Enjoy the storm and stay safe. Don't go out driving in it!

Hugs from Rusty and me to you and Tessie Lou,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 6/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 144 - Postponing Vet Appt

Hi Sherry, your lanai sounds so nice. Our house sits back in a heavily treed lot, so it provides lots of protection from wind, tornados, etc. but we don't get the views that you get. That would be awesome! And yes, I agree, it's much better to know what you're dealing with. I'll be relieved to know, just hate putting Tessie through the vet visit and the sedation. I just can't wait to have it over, and get her back home with me.

Hi Ella, thanks for the encouragement. I didn't hear back from the vet today, which is odd, but I'll probably get a call first thing in the morning. I hope I can take her in very early, and she can be first in the lineup, so that maybe I can get her home by noon. Just guessing, but I can hope...

Hi Rusty, the party at Camp Stu was so fun! Thanks for inviting me. And thanks for the hug, too! I'm glad we're friends! Tessie Lou

I would have postponed as well hope you are having a nice night very nice pmps for Tessie Lou

Re: 6/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 144 +4/126 +6/144 PMPS 139

Well, Champ is trying to irritate me...he went from a 156 at PMPS to 315 at +1!!!! I don't know what to think of that!! Maybe he got lower than I even imaged earlier this afternoon when I wasn't checking his BGs!! That'll teach me :?

I hope everything turns out well for Tessie Lou. I'm going to keep thinking positive thoughts and send them your way. Try not to worry, though I know that's an impossible task. And know we're all here for you, thinking good thoughts!!! :-D

Thanks Lisa, I appreciate that.

Patty, I think it's got to be a bounce, right? Maybe Champ was really low like at +5 or +6 today? Don't kick yourself, though, it's just not possible to catch every drop. I have a sneaking suspicion Tessie has been down to dose reduction territory recently. I just haven't caught it yet. Right now, she's riding the low 100s (112@ +3.5), so I'm debating whether to chance it and go to bed for a couple hours, or be diligent and test again in an hour. Trouble is, she could keep this up all night! I'm not good at this late night stuff.

Anyway, thanks for your support with Tessie Lou's situation. It really means a lot to not be in this alone. Can you imagine doing this FD thing without this forum? nailbite_smile

Check ya later, but you're probably going to bed. I know I would! :-D
