Good Morning LL! It's raining outside, but my house is full of sunshine now that Chyna is home again
I actually picked her up from the vet yesterday evening but by the time we got settled and both of us fed and had some cuddles I was sooooo exhausted that we both just hit the hay, sorry I didn't update last night. The minute she was handed to me in the carrier and we got in the car she stopped growling. I got some face rubs against my fingers. When we got home she stopped for petting then went straight to her food dish that I had ready and ate a few bites, she hadn't eaten much if anything at the vet. Then paced, went to the litter box, up on the bed, followed me to the kitchen, went and ate again...very interested in staying close
Yesterday and the day before condo is here: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=97334
I finally had a consult with the vet I had wanted to see that owns the clinic, and I really like him. He was so excited about all my charts, the remission, and what I've been doing for her. I had brought in a sheet of what she gets every day with the timing of her meals, what was in the Jarrow Bright, etc and he was very interested in slippery elm bark helping her nausea and the vitamins so he could recommend it to his other patients with CKD cats! He was like "can I keep this sheet"? I made it for him, so yes
So kudos to everyone on this board, as it has been based on your amazing advice and help
He said something about how not many people would go so far as I have (I said I knew some from here, lol) but at least he can recommend it for the people who want to.
As for Chyna, all her levels after the (32 hour) IV were back in normal range, even the phosphorus?!...except the glucose spiked a bit over normal from all the stress, which didn't surprise me! He kept reassuring me that was just stress, that is wasn't a concern and she was very upset at the blood draw. Which everyone in the building could hear from her yowling and growling, kitty has a good set of lungs ;-) So this morning we started Epakitin for the phosphorus binder (I asked about aluminum hydroxide but he likes this one better as it worked on his kitties so wanted me to try one without aluminum for now) and Azodyl for kidney support. She ate both of them (Azodyl in a pill pocket and Epakitin in the food). I'm going to have to check into some online pricing, as those were an ouchie on the already eeek bill. He doesn't want to start subqs yet, he wants to try the Azodyl for a bit and said subqs are the next step to take after this and to bring her in if she acts unusual. So I will keep a close eye on how she feels as usual
Question...should I be dividing up the amount and giving the binder in each mini meal? They have it 1 scoop twice daily on the bottle...but most cats eat less meals, I give her 9 (1/8 can) over 24 hours. 2 with slippery elm bark which is separated by hours from the others so it doesn't prevent absorption of vitamins/supplements and 1 with cosequin. I should have asked when I was there...too relieved to think I guess and I had so much to ask. I can always call to ask them. I put the Azodyl capsule in the pill pocket with the Vitamin B powder and Methylcobalamin that she gets twice daily...
I haven't had time to update her lab numbers yet from after the IV but will do so today. Sorry for the long post, haha. A big big hug and giant amount of thanks for all the support from you all! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
