PMPS 389 Dose increase +2-346; +4-115

Tuxie was running so so yesterday morning so I did a dose increase last night. At +4 he really dropped and then of course this morning he did a big bounce up again. I really can't see the PM dose increase affecting his numbers that quickly. In hindsight I am thinking I should have left the old dose another cycle or two. These big drops and bounces are harder on him IMO.

I don't know too much about the big drops, but I would think it is important to get him into better numbers so that his body can get use to them. It is my understanding that once they get use to the better numbers they shouldn't bounce as much.

What I am trying to avoid is big drops and big bounces...that is very hard on the body. Tuxie can sometimes take 5 or 6 days to level out on a new dose, so my (hindsight) feeling is I should have left him another cycle or two to see if he settled into a bit lower numbers. If he hits lower blues or greens from higher numbers I am almost guaranteed a bounce and that can take several days to level out. Tuxie can be a very bouncy little guy.

I know I need to get him into better numbers...my target is between 80 and 160 on my AT2 meter, for as much of the day as possible. I just don't want big bounces and drops while I get him there. Last night he dropped 231 points in 2 hours..that is just too big a drop.

Only you know what would work best for Tuxie, you are there with him. It does look like he was getting some BLUES on the 6.25 dose, and if he tends to take a little longer to settle in then maybe you are right waiting a few more days might have done the trick, but at the same time, maybe it wouldn't. You have increased now and the bounce has happened so at this point there is nothing you can do, except go with it.

The fact that he was over 400 yesterday morning on the 6.25 dose, and he had not seen that high of a number on that dose makes me believe that you did the right thing by increasing, but again I don't have all the knowledge you have about how he reacts to insulin.

You are probably right about the increase. I just hate to see big drops like he had last night, because I know that is going to cause 2 or even three days of unsettled numbers. Like you said, the deed is done so I just have to go with it and see where Tuxie decides to end up. My friends always did accuse me of over-thinking situations :)

Trust me, you are not alone. You just don't know how much time every day I spend thinking about Sammy's and what they are or are not doing, and why. It is quite crazy.

I am sure the majority of the people on here are afflicted with the "over-think" syndrome. My time is all planned around Tuxie's cycles...an active one and I stay close to home...a flatter one and I can go run errands. In between I read everything I can on diabetes and study his spreadsheet, trying to see patterns and forecast how he will react. Of course Tuxie is totally oblivious to all this and really is only interested in food and scritches...smart boy!! ;)

I am EXACTLY the same way. LOL! And Sammy is just like Tuxie, he just goes about his day as if nothing is different.
