Hey Sue - I should have retested but didn't think of it and I had to run out of the house. Just got back and saw your note so I tested him at +8 and he is at 142. So I am guessing that 69 was a good test. I noticed today that he does not have a runny eye and is not sneezing as much and not much nose discharge as well. I have to go get his meds now.

On another note, I am now having a horrible time at trying to give him fluids. I tried today but never got it so I am skipping it today. The first couple of times was so easy and now it is extremely hard on him and it is hard to hold him down myself or even with my husband helping. I just can't seem to do a good job and get the needle in. I think I may call the vet tech and have them show me how to do it. I hate to take him into the vet but that way, I can see what I am doing wrong and what I am doing in making it so painful for Merlin. I am not ready to give up but I can see where if this continues, I don't think I want to put him through the procedure and pain. He is so tolerant of everything else but not this subq fluid thing.

We are starting the AB meds for his sinus. He getting .5ml of Azithromycin. I am suppose to give it to him for 5 days straight then once every three days for the next 3-4 weeks. I found out that you can request sugar free but unfortunately mine is not. The pharmacist indicated that it should affect his BG minimally. I asked for them to update his file to only be sugar free next time and I will request the vet to consider it also.

Thanks Kath for the fluid support. How long have you been administering subqs?

We did sub fluids to our Schooch he was not diabetic but was in renal failure we did it for 8 months every 3rd day and I will admit my DH at the time put the needle in. We loss our boy to bladder cancer in Jan.2012 he was 17 1/2 years old and even though the tears still come he had a great life. wings_cat He was King of our home... He was the best cat to do anything with and man could he sing...always a housecat but at 2am he would sing sing sing. would give anything to hear his songs today.
(((Merlin)))) sending you tons of healing green light and Angels to help your person with those fluids....no stress...deep breaths... ~O) ~O) Kath

Thank you for sharing Kath. I bet Schooch had a great voice. Sometimes you run across one that has a real talent. Maybe in a formal life he was a singer. If you don't mind, how much did you give him every three days? I am suppose to give 150 every other day but decided it would be better if I did 75 every day and the vet agreed. I was only able to give him the full amount the first couple of times. The last few times, he would just howl during the whole procedure. I got a small needle (Terumos 21 gauge) and I got LRS. I have watched the videos over and over. I know it is just takes practice just like the whole insulin procedure.

Hi again Schooch would get 100mls every 3 days....he didn`t seem to mind it but one thing I did do is warm the bag of fluids to room temp he didn`t like cold so I would put the bag in the sink covered with warm water for about 5 minutes before we gave it to him....room temp.....Hope this helps Kath

I believe if I remember right we went from the small needle to a bigger one so we could get it into him quicker but he would just lay there like he knew when he had enough then he would start to get up. He only fought us once the last time we went to give it to him 4 days before we helped him cross over he just didn`t want it and we went with his wishes he was in charge......next day found out cancer had moved in .Hugssssssssssss we do everything we can for them don`t we and in the end all we can do is keep them comfortable till they are called back home.....Kath
