Re: 6/11 Tashie AMPS=599

Hi guys .. pretty sure I've not made it to tashie's condo before so welcome from us! A high number to start the day, hopefully tashie works on coming down a few floors .. have a great day guys!

Re: 6/11 Tashie AMPS=599

Nice to see those blues, how about staying there, Tashie? Good job getting those midcycle checks!

Re: 6/11 Tashie AMPS=599/+4.75=366

So, I am having a devil vs. angel day. Saw vet yesterday and she also called me this morning. She thinks that trying to dose .25U is inconsistent and Tash is having too many HIGH's from it. She wants me to go to a .5U consistent dose and ONLY test AMPS & PMPS. She thinks all this is stressing Tash out, along with the rest of the household:

ie; other cat / dog / husband / me.

She wants me to start the .5U and leave Tash alone for a week. I told her Tash was "bouncing" right now and she said that is ridiculous. I need to find some middle ground on this before my vet fires me and I completely fall apart. After all, I do NEED her as she is HERE and I do believe she has Tash's best interests at heart and she KNOWS they type of kittie Tash is.

Just having one of those days..............

Re: 6/11 Tashie AMPS=599/+4.75=366

(((((Bernadette))))) That is tough when your vet forgets that you are paying her and she works for you, not the other way around. This is all incredibly stressful when we care about our kitties as much as we do.

Re: 6/11 Tashie AMPS=599/+4.75=366

so tell me ((((AGAIN))) why he is so HIGH again and seems to feel like crap? It's just so hard seeing her having these ups & downs.

Re: 6/11 Tashie AMPS=599/+4.75=366

Sometimes it is best to nod and agree, then do what you think best at home. ;-) I think her attitude is causing more stress than testing. Tess (and many other cats) actually purrs while i test her.

Re: 6/11 Tashie AMPS=599/+4.75=366

But WHY does Tash keep going SO HIGH? This is taking a toll on that little girl - she's having a "Debbie Downer" day again today and not so interested in food......it's hard to watch.

Re: 6/11 Tashie AMPS=599/+4.75=366

That's what I was going to say. Just nod at the vet. Sometimes you just don't have the energy to fight them :-| .
Tashie is your cat, and you don't have to do what the vet says. It does look like she could use a little more insulin, but I would definitely keep up the testing the way you have been doing in order to keep her safe.

Re: 6/11 Tashie AMPS=599/+4.75=366

So then I need DOSING advice - it's better to INCREASE in the MORNING - right? As they "tend" to go lower at night? Thinking .5U in morning and keep to that

(((Bern)))

I agree that it is the vet that is causing you stress. She has already proven she does not understand how the insulin works. And for her to say bouncing is ridiculous....she doesn't see enough SSs to know or understand. Liz is right that she works for you; not the other way around. I agree that you need to decide how you want to manage Tashie's FD or you will always feel pulled. If you want to work with your vet and try it her way, that's your decision and you can still post here and we will still be supportive. If you don't think she is giving you sound advice, then, as others said, just nod and say ok. Then do what you think is best.

Insofar as testing at AMPS and PMPS only, if you had been doing that, you wouldn't have caught her going so low the other day. For me, it isn't worth the risk of my cat hypoing just to keep my vet happy (well, not my vet because she is way cool about all this :-D ).

I agree with Dyana that you could take her back up to .5u. You can do it tonight or tomorrow morning (oops...you already shot).

One thing that makes me a little nailbite_smile about it is that Tashie has shown she can drop low rather quickly. Yesterday morning, I wonder if she did that and when you caught her, she was on the way up. Thus the big bounce. Last night, when she had come back down, I probably would have set an alarm and gotten up again later to test her. She came down a long way.

What I mean by all that is you are going to need to do a few more spot checks after you take her up. You saw how she came down the other day and night.

I'm sorry we missed you earlier today. If you have a dosing question, you can put "Dose ?" in the subject line and we'll see it sooner.

Good luck with the increase. I hope she has a better day tomorrow!

I had another thought. My vet now is not the same as the one who dx Gracie. But when I told the initial vet that I was going to work with FDMB on management of her diabetes, she agreed to go to lunch with me and I showed her tons of SSs. She saw SSs of cats that were looking about the same as Gracie. She saw SSs of the people who had been here awhile and their kitties were well regulated. I told her the people in FDMB live and breath FD 24/7. She had a lightbulb moment and never gave me any issues after that. I only switched vets because she sold her practice and moved. Sometimes, seeing is believing.
