Ok, so on 6/8/14 I switched Spot from Lev to Lantus, sticking with the .75u.
Did 4 cycles on this and there was not much of a difference so I upped his dose to 1.0 units, starting last night.
The cycle started out looking pretty nice, then this morning he hit me with a nice red number.

6/10/14
amps - 422 (.75 u lantus)
+ 6 - 353
+ 9 - 419
pmps - 366 (1.0 u lantus)
+ 4 - 221
+ 7 - 189
+ 9 - 227

6/11/14
amps - 447 (1.0 u lantus)

I am at work and mom is home, but she had to go out this morning for a while, so I do not have another number to give at this point. I am seriously at my wits end...seriously. These numbers are from a boy that used to give me nothing but mid to low blues and greens.

He seems to be ok....had his dental, got one tooth pulled and all infection is gone. He has been pooping like a champ, grooms himself, sometimes has his zippy pants on and gets a little bug up his butt and will zip around the house a few times or he will tussle with GeeCee until I break them up. He eats like a little piggy....Clean Plate club all the way. He wakes me up for his nini snacks. He enjoys the fact that the weather is now nice and he can hang out on the porch all day if he wants and if someone is home. As soon as he is done eating his dinner, he is over by the door waiting to be let out and he will hang out there on his chair until I bring him in to go to bed. Fur is soft. He is a happy boy for sure. Just wish I knew what the heck is going on with him......

Re: 6/11/14 Spot amps 447

Hi Deb. Thanks for the condo visit. Did Spot bounce much on lev? Just curious, why the switch from lev to lantus? I hope you figure out the reason for the change real soon and he goes back to the blues and greens! I just looked at his ss. They were so perfect for so long. Any other symptoms that might give clues as to what is causing the change?

Re: 6/11/14 Spot amps 447

Come on down Spot. At least he is feeling good. He doesn't care what his numbers are. ;-) Thank you for the encouraging words on Tarragon's condo. I appreciate it. Have a great day Deb!

Re: 6/11/14 Spot amps 447/ +7 300

Tiff - Spot has been on Lev for about 5 years and my reasoning for switching is because I was thinking that maybe he became resistant to the lev. Anything is worth a try at this point. Spot did not bounce very much when he was on Lev. There are no unusual symptoms of anything wrong...he is the same Spot today that he was 8 months ago. Just not sure what is going on!

 You are welcome Melissa!

Re: 6/11/14 Spot amps 447/ +7 300/ +9 - 352

Thanks for the info on lev. I'm watching those on it and thinking of possibly changing if Max doesn't regulate soon. Oh, I'm Elise. Tiffany was my tortie that I got when I got Max.

It may take a little bit to find a good dose on Lantus. I believe the doses can be slightly different between Levemir and Lantus. You could be seeing some NDW today. I hope Spot will give you some better numbers soon. The important thing is he is feeling good.

Come on down Spot - time to find the lagoon again!

Normally when people switch from one L insulin to the other, we suggest starting at .7 times the dose of the other, which would have meant starting at .5U Lantus. But given the numbers you've seen, probably just as well you didn't.

FWIW, I think you were starting to see good numbers on the .75U of Lev. On May 27th you went from 1.0U to .75 the night cycle then .5U the next cycle. Those back to back reductions might have been too fast. He started to see greens again on .75U Lev on June 6th. He doesn't look resistant to Lev to me as he was getting greens, just bouncy.

I thought it was start with 70% of the old Lantus dose when switching from Lantus to Levemir.
I haven't heard of it going both ways and being advised to use 70% of the old Levemir dose when switching over to Lantus.

I agree with Wendy in thinking that those two back to back dose reductions she mentions were too close together and too much of a reduction.
