Yesterday

We are off to the vet today at 2pm. I am concerned about his sinuses. He has continued to sneeze only to sneeze out creamy colored gook with blood in it. Also I think already the little tumor that was taken off of his right front leg appears to be growing back but it could be a scab.

I continue to give him 1/8 tsp of Miralax and 1/4 tablet of Pepcid AC BID. The Pepcid AC seem to be working and he has not had any stomach acid throw up since then.

Thanks Sue for the suggested increase in dosage. I increased him .2u. I didn't know how to do .25. Now that I think of it, it is probably a fat .2u.

Thanks BJ for the link instruction...it worked.

Don't know what to think...

It sounds like he could have an infection, Cindi. Either from the dental or a sinus issue - both would definitely bring up his numbers. Hope the vet can figure it out.

Did the vet have any info? Sorry to hear he's feeling bad!

Re: 6/10 Merlin AMPS 378,+5/265

Vet update: There were no visible signs of infection going on his mouth. His teeth looked great. He had his sutures removed and there were no sign of the cyst returning. The only thing that is going on is his sinus problem. Dr. believes it is chronic sinusitis and gave me a prescription, can't remember what he gave me but I will be picking it up probably tomorrow at the compound. He feels that this is what could be making his numbers hard to control at this point plus the fact of recovering from his dental. So the med is something that I will give him for five days straight then every 3 days there after. If he didn't have diabetes, he probably would have gotten steroids. He weighed 9.14 today in which he was 10.3 on 5/21 so he lost 5 oz. He thought Merlin should weigh around 10 lbs so he wasn't real concern and thought that the reason for the weight loss was due to the dental and possibly the reduction of protein in his diet (for the CKD). He thought that was expectant. I am suppose to continue to give fluids and in about 4-6 weeks, he would like to check his kidney levels again.

Haven't seen a 400 number in a long time. He usually does not get a high number just because he went to the vet. So am not sure where this came from. I am wondering if it has anything to do with him receiving fluids? I know he doesn't like it. He seems to like to sleep for several hours afterwards. I will keep an eye out for this possible trend.

Tears drain into the lower sinuses. Discuss with your vet if sterile, preservative-free (no sting) eye drops (ex Systane single use packet) might help flush some of the goo out of the lower sinuses. Its just an idea. If it makes him more comfortable, might be worth doing.

Hmmm. That must be fun putting eye drops in a cat. I have to give my german shephard mix eye drops 2-3 times per day because of pannes disease. She is so easy and actually I think she likes it. I can't imagine giving drops to a cat but will look into it if the AB doesn't work. Thanks BJ.

Tip: gently pull out the lower lid by gently tugging the skin of the lower lid. Aim for the pocket that forms, rather than dropping it right on the eyeball.

Just an idea....when Trey had his bad cold I put vicks vapor rub on a Kleenex and put it under his blanket in his bed helped him breath better .....may help open his sinuses if he has his own bed. Most cats love the menthol smell if its not too close Trey loves it he will lick it off your hands I have to keep them tucked under the covers... Kath
