6/1 Tigger PMPS 504 - won't eat, ketones only 0.8 on blood meter

Tigger was 273 at AMPS but then quickly bounced to 401 by mid day. After going out of the house for a while I came home to a lot of vomited food. He still seemed normal and may have eaten food left in his bowl anywhere around 4-5 pm. Then at PMPS he got 504! He's a little lethargic and will not eat but his ketones only read 0.8 on the Precision Xtra blood monitor. I usually wait to shoot until he's finished half his bowl but tonight with the number so high I rushed it and shot right as he was nosing the bowl. He only took one bite though and now I'm freaking out! I should mention he also had a weird sneezing fit earlier and continues to sneeze little and lick his lips alot. This usually means he's gonna puke. Should I get him to take some Cerenia?
 
It does sound as if he may be nauseated. Do you have any cerenia tablets at home?
If not it would be worth while getting either some tablets from the vet or an injection of cerenia, seeing he has vomited, now nauseated and you have given the shot and he won't eat and he has a history of DKA.
Also ask the vet if you can have a script for some ondansetron tablets as they are also good for nausea in cats.

I do have Cerenia and successfully got him to take a dose. Now he is all shrimped up and snoring . . . . . I guess he's not feeling too bad cause he always sleeps like a loaf then. I'll let him sleep a bit and check his BG soon.

I’m glad you gave him the cerenia. Has he eaten any more yet?
 
Ok so Tig woke up, ate a little, pooped in front of the litter (which is his way of saying his tummy hurt), ate a tiny bit more and is now resting comfortably by my side, (a indication he is feeling a little better). His BG was 279 which is a huge decrease from 504 but not scary low at +3. I have all the supplies I need to watch him like a hawk most of the night (though hopefully it won't be necessary!)
