Good Friday Morning!
Sushi has been acting very strange this morning and I'm concerned!
He decided to have a little party between the headboard and wall an hour or so before I woke up (he's never done that before), and then threw up yellow foamy stuff while I was in the shower. It looks exactly like the throw up when he went into liver failure last January; it's not much--about the size of a silver dollar. He has a kind of senile air about him. His fur is twitchy. He seems to need to crouch or lay down. He'll run, crouch/lay down. After a few minutes, he'll take off running, and crouch/lay down.
I was certain he was going hypo but his BG is 299! He seems a bit more normal/calm now, but I'm still very concerned!
Any wisdom?

Hi guys ... I can't remember if I've been in sushi's condo yet or not, so if not welcome from us! I have no idea what could cause such behavior but hopefully others can chime in soon enough .. it's always a worry when our kitties are not 100% isn't it? have a great weekend guys!
 
It doesn't sound like anything I'm familiar with. Throwing up yellow foamy stuff could be nothing, he could have eaten something he shouldn't have, or, if it was smelly, it could be bile. If you are concerned, make a vet appointment.
 
i second sienne's suggestion to take sushi in to see the vet if you're concerned.
a coupe of years ago alex had some liver & kidney problems. one of the symptoms was yellow foamy vomit.
this may be nothing, but if sushi seems "off" in any way it's best to have him checked out.
 
Do you weigh Sushi often on a babyscale/petscale/shipping scale? When Maverick almost died from FHL the assisted feeding forum really nagged me to get one. This way I could know if he was maintaining/gaining his weight. I got in the habit of weighing him monthly to make sure he was maintaining his weight. The scale actually caught Maverick's diabetes before he had any other symptoms and was able to be food managed for a year. A scale is another tool to monitor Sushi at home. Sending hugs.
 
Hi PeterDevon & Ann! We are long lost friends; I joined the board last summer, and you both stopped by our condos from time to time. But then I got a job and moved, so I haven't been around much these days!

As I've been thinking, I'm wondering what could cause yellow foamy throw up. Sienne mentioned it could be "normal"--that he just ate something strange (probably during his behind the headboard party) or bile. And as Jill & I have experienced, it's also a symptom of liver & kidney problems. Are there any other triggers for yellow foamy throw up?

And is it possible for Sushi to go into liver failure again or have kIdney problems even though he's on insulin?

YES - insulin doesn't prevent renal nor hepatic problems, it only helps control glucose levels which may or may not impact upon those, depending on level of control and type of problem. Other issues may be at the root of any kidney or liver conditions. Because of the history, I strongly encourage a vet visit to check bloodwork and urine chemistry.
 
Sounds something like the way my dog acts when he is having seizure activity.....is out of it, tries to burrow into a corner or digs in the dirt.....

Might want to check that out...
