better numbers. maybe making progress.

larry has gained so much weight. he was this size or bigger b4 FD, lost down to 14 lbs. (he should probably be 12) then gained to 16, last vet check. i think he may be about 20 now. anyway, he always acts like hes starving. i dont see how he got this big on wet only, though? u would think high protein/low carb they would lose?

do most of u feed as much as they want? and r ur cats overweight? tia.

Nope mine get about a can to a can and a half depending on their ideal weight. On average a 10-12lb neutered/spayed housecat should be eating one 5.5 oz can per day or roughly 15-20 calories per pound ideal weight. Now unregulated diabetic will need more because they aren't using what they're eating correctly. But one of the best things I did for Cassanova was taking the weight off him.

Remember even a human eating nothing but veggies will get fat if they eat a ton of them. It isn't what you eat its how much. I did have overweight kitties (civies) but I feed them separately so they only get their share. And they don't get released until after everyone else is done eating so they can't scarf the leftovers.

sp if larry SHOULD be 12 lbs and is always hungry/restless/cranky for food, would u give him 2 cans a day (11 oz) for now? he is around 20 lbs now.
the meezy is the worst. she wants fresh all the time, and cries constantly when its not up to standards. like when the wet has sat a few hrs. ha
and mornings....OMG what a nightmare. she and larry both r insane for food.

Honestly no. Cassanova and Amon Ra (1 of the meezers) would yell about food until they learned it just wasn't going to happen except at mealtimes and they were only going to get what they were given. Oh sure they still yell while I'm preparing their meals but that's about it now. Obesity isn't healthy for anyone.

If Larry has gained that much weight then he's using what he's eating. Over feeding can make it hard to regulate. To give you an idea I feed 17 cats on 20 cans a day. But I also have Maxwell whose ideal weight is 17lbs and Lady Jane Grey whose ideal weight is 14lbs and Cassanova whose ideal weight is 16lbs then I have my tiny Arabella whose ideal weight is 6lbs.

Part of your problem regulating Larry could be too much food. At most I might give him a can and a quarter.

Well I feed mine meals 4 times a day. My 12-ish pounders get 1/4 can at 7a.m.,1 p.m.,7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Smaller more frequent meals are easier on the pancreas as it doesn't have to process as much glucose at a time. So a fd cat whose pancreas is still somewhat functional but just not keeping up with the food going in spreading the meals out and making the smaller is sometimes all the need to go into remission.

Mine would eat me alive if I only fed twice a day!! They're spoiled rotten.

i know what u mean. i meant within the 24 hrs...it looks like thats what u do. 5 small meals of 1/4 can. then they go 9 hrs. without any i guess? thanks.

Yep. But boy I never over sleep as I have 17 furry alarm clocks. Lol.

Now I will often freeze their before bed snack if we're going out in the evening and serve it frozen with their pmps meal so they can nibble as it thaws
