Gus is not doing very well today. He is not interested in food of any kind and slept all day and. It is totally different from time when he had pancreatitis just not interested in food not licking not a bit no lip licking. While he is up he seem OK and purring. He drinks and uses LB properly. I noticed very small dry piece of poo so I am thinking he is constipated but refused pumpkin pure. I am thinking of Miralax 1/8 TSP is it OK? I probably have to dissolve it in water and syringe it.

BG is still good:

AMPS 130 (drop insulin injected)
@+4 75
@+10 125
PMPS 99

I am observing him and no insulin for PM since he is not eating and BG is good.

Poor Gus - sending vines your way for him. You might want to double check with the vet on giving Miralax, but the amount is good. Make sure he drinks lots. Have you seen this list of tricks to get your kitty to eat?

Kitties shouldn't go more than a couple days without food. I'd contact the vet if he isn't eating by tomorrow. You may have to assist feed him. Sometimes that will "prime the pump" and get them eating.

Definitely check with the vet, when Skooter had his bout with constipation we started with 1/4 tsp twice a day until we were able to get him cleaned out....he is now a lifer at 1/8 tsp twice a day

Thank you Wendy and Mollyn. Gus is drinking lot of water and since he had normal BM yesterday PM I am still hoping that he will go soon.

Any chance he has a hairball brewing? My civie goes a little off his food when one is pending. A little bit of olive oil or coconut oil if he'll eat it can help. Or unsalted butter if he can tolerate dairy.

OK. Gus actually had two tiny tiny pieces of butter. I remember that in the past he really liked plain yogurt and it helped him with constipation. Not much luck with yogurt he refused. If he is anywhere close to food he will sniff it and walks away. This is something new for Gus. Non of my previously successful methods did make him eat.

hmm, that's not good. Rotisserie chicken is usually pretty irresistible. Take a look at that link that Wendy gave you for more ideas.

Have you tried using your finger to get some into his mouth? sometimes that will remind a kitty that the food is good.

Thank you Julie. Yes and yes. Since we have problem with Gus not eating often I have tried most tricks. He usually will eat baby food (beef) when I feed it to him with the spoon. One think that he liked before was chicken liver so I am going to try.

even if there are different symptoms now since the last time that Gus had pancreatitis, I'd still wonder if it might be that again. Pancreatitis crops up so often and a loss of appetite is often one of the first indicators.

If you have the fluids, pain killer, appy stimulant, nausea meds that you used before, you could always try some and see if it helps him or not. It wouldn't hurt anything and it might help him feel better.

I have meds and I am going to try it. The only reason I didn't do it yet that he is constipated now and I know from past experience that ondansetron makes him more constipated.

It sounds like pancreatitis to me. Max gets lethargic though he will usually still purr if I brush him. He becomes inappetent. Do you have any cerenia or ondansetron to try. It took me a long time to realize these are signs of nausea. Often when having a pancreatitis issue the complaint is my cat just isn't acting right. Last week that was Max and a couple days of ondansetron really helped. I give him 1/8 t of miralax daily. It's a dose to effect thing and can take a few days to kick in. I'd call the vet and ask if any of this is okay to try. I hope Gus feels better soon.
