Baileys ss is now up to date, could you please have a look and tell me if you think the insulin dose is too high,am wondering if the tooth he had extracted on 5th May has made a difference to his insulin requirement, his nadir today was higher than his AMPS,does that indicate too much insulin? Expert advise would be very welcome.

Hello, I am not an expert, but I was looking at Bailey's sheet.

An extracted tooth can decrease insulin requirments if there was infection and/or pain causing higher BG's. You did reduce to 3.75. So far I don't think it shows that it is too much insulin. Usually Bailey does come down nicely for midcyle so this cycle doesn't follow his normal pattern. I would try a few more cycles and evaluate the numbers. He could be bouncing from the 1.4. what is 1.4 in U.S numbers.

Let's see what others think.

Okay. I think the blues you are seeing yesterday and so far today are just fine, and I would not change the dose again, as the insulin needs a few days to fill the depot to the current dose. I would stick with the 3.75 for 6 cycles and reevaluate then unless Bailey goes under 40 (if diagnosed more than a year ago, or under 50 if diagnosed less than a year ago).

Dyana thanks so much for your advise,I agree he has had too many insulin dose changes in the past few weeks, will keep him on 3.75 and see how he settles.just get worried how low he is going through the night,as I am not around to test.
Thank you Catherine for your input,it all helps 1.4 in US is 25!

Hi Diane!

I agree with Dyana - I think this dose (3.75) looks great. His numbers look flatter, which likely feels good to him, and they are in a pretty good range. I got your message about nights, and i think getting the before bed test that you've been doing this week is the best way for you to feel comfortable about being able to go to sleep. You can compare the bedtime test to his preshot and that will let you know what he might do in the rest of that cycle, ie, if he's headed for low numbers or if he's flattened out.

He looks good to me. How is he feeling?

Hi Julie, thanks for the advise,I am pleased you agree with Dyana,we will stay with the 3.75 and see how he goes.
He is fine in himself,he has slowed down a lot since being diagnosed,at 14 the illness has taken its tole on him,but apart from that he is still doing catty things, going out, coming in eating, having a snooze, and off out again!!so can't really complain. Thanks once again to you all. Diane
