Overnight, Morris ate all of his food! I will pick up the injectable pepcid on my way home from work tonight & start giving that to him this evening. I also need to pick up more bupe (gave last dose I had from last time around this morning). I know the bupe has not expired, but perhaps it is not as potent as it was when first dispensed. It will be interesting to see how the new bottle works when I start that this evening.

You might have to make a scheduled rotation of sprinkles for variety for Morris. Fortiflora vs parm cheese? or keep track of which flavors of fud he was fed when he eats well or not so well. see if there's a pattern.
Where do you get fortiflora from? I have heard about here, but I haven't seen it anywhere around where I live. He seems to like (even without a p~itis flare) his merrick (cowboy cookout or surf-n-turf) much better when mixed with fancy feast turkey & giblets. Of course, he likes anything much better when mixed with MC fancy feast!! LOL!!

Also? I think (where's Jojo?) that SQ bup is the same as oral bupe.
Really?!?!? I have PM'd jojo to see if she knows! If that's the case, then I won't even need to tell my vet! LOL!

Re: 6/03 Morris AMPS 322

Fortiflora is available through Entirely pets.com
If you go to the top of the page and click on Donate, Subscribe Shop you will scroll down to the yellow box for the affiliates. The FDMB gets a little something when we order through these companies. It is also available on Amazon and you can order from the yellow box link too.
Hope Morris will feel better real soon!

Re: 6/03 Morris AMPS 322

Glad to hear he is eating. Its fantastic that you recognized symptoms and got on it right away! Im sure Morris is very grateful for this.

Im not sure what is meant by oral and injectible bupe being the same? I certainly wouldnt put the bupe I am injecting into latte in her mouth. :? her vet said yesterday that he has never given out the injectible form to a client before (we were the first). So .... :?: :?: :?:

Probably for a quicker answer (dont think jojo checks pm's often), you could pm Jess or post on health about it.

Hope Morris continues to feel better under your wonderful care!

Do you know if they ship to Canada? I will investigate their site this evening when I have more time!

I don't think I know Jess! I will post over on health though...thanks for the thought!

Jess/Earl (maybe she only goes by Jess here now). She'll know for sure.

Fortiflora is also available at your vet, and on Amazon. I bought 2 boxes at amazon. But you might ask your vet for one packet, see if you cats likey. It supposedly smells a lot like dry kibble, so most cats adore it.

Re: 6/03 Morris AMPS 322 - SQ question

I am using u100 syringes. .03ml is 3u of insulin. i would ask your vet to help you convert. jojo helped me, then my vet confirmed. BUT, expect to get a wierd look, especially if you ask a tech. as far as they are concerned, insulin syringes are for insulin...nothing else. Once the conversion was done, and not as hard as they thought it made sense to them and the lightbulbs went off...they thought I was brilliant!

Home from vets with injectable pepcid. The instructions say to give 0.26ml SQ injection every 24 hours. I thought we dosed every 12 hours for this??? So, using my u100 syringes & carolyns info above....I should draw up 26 units of this to give him once a day? Or, should I draw up 13units & give twice per day instead? Strength is 10mg/ml.

Re: 6/03 Morris AMPS 322; +9.5 427 - SQ injection question

13 units isn't enough. If this was a 10 mg Pepcid AC tablet, he should get around 2.5 mg per dose. So inj. would be 0.25 ml (25 units) per shot. (check my math, please, it's my naptime).

The question is do you want to give 25 units in a U-100 insulin syringe (0.25 ml) SID or BID. How are his kidneys?

The general recommendation I've seen is up 2.5 mg up to but no more than twice a day, if his kidneys are fine. For kitties with renal insufficiency, we generally go with 2.5 mg SID as they may not clear the drug as efficiently.

Re: 6/03 Morris AMPS 322; +9.5 427 - SQ injection question

Hi Gwen,
I can tell you what I do, but dont know if I should tell you what YOU should do w/o being there and seeing what you have. Kwim? I will let ya figure it out from the info I give you...which you will have no problem doing!

I have famotidine injection 20mg/2ml (different strength than yours it sounds like). I use u100, .5ml syringes. I give .5ml (thats 5mg) once/day. It used to be less, but as Latte has progressed, we just give her the whole shabang. I could also split the dose and give twice daily (.25ml/2.5mg a.m./p.m.), which might be ideal...but I chose not to give her yet another injection.

I give her ondansetron via injection. Her dose is .34ml. I use a u100, .5ml syringe. I pull it up to the .34ml line, aka as 34 units.

I think if you want to do it twice/daily, you would want to talk to your vet about it. Splitting the 2.5 dose *might* be enough. Then again, it might not be.

Hope that helps.

carolyn - it's the same strength. 20 mg/2 ml is the same as 10 mg/ml ;-)

Re: 6/03 Morris AMPS 322; +9.5 427; PMPS 391

Thank you all for your input about the injectable pepcid! I did go ahead & give him the 0.26ml at around +11 & will repeat this again tomorrow evening. I was concerned about injecting that much into him at once, but he seemed to tolerate it well. Hopefully, this will help his tummy start to feel better & he will be back to his usual self soon!

His kidneys are perfectly fine. All the labwork he has had done this past year have all had wonderfully normal values, except for the diabetes & p~itis numbers. I will continue to give once per day as instructed by my vet & see how he does with it.

I also gave him another 100mls of SQ fluids at about +10.5 today & I am still continuing to give him bupe orally twice per day.

Re: 6/03 Morris AMPS 322; +9.5 427; PMPS 391

I think when you are only injecting insulin, especially at such small amounts, the .24 seems like a lot. if you used a regular syringe, it would seem like nothing. You get used to it.

Hope Morris keeps trucking along and feeling better!

What has happened to my nice numbers????? Pretty ugly colors here today

By +2, he has eaten 1/4 of the food I put out for him. I did not sprinkle parm on top tonight.....I am wanting to see if he will eat without it tonight in hopes that the pepcid will make his tummy feel better!

I agree! When I looked at how much further down the syringe 26 units is from the 2.5 I am used.....it was a little scarey! Thankfully, he did not seem to mind at all!

Thanks again for all your help!!!
