Good morning. New start time 9:30 today. AMPS 299. I think that’s a record low for ps. I wonder if he dropped last night, even after we fed him? Shot given 9:30. He has eaten about 1 can of LC food (half of one, half of another)He grazed up until +.5. I think this is the natural Merlin coming out. Ate possibly more than one can, but I lost track as it was three flavors of lc. All good though.

I think its ok to skip the famous 1.5 today, since he was still so high a half an hour ago. Btw, I just managed to cleanly peel the old libre off. There’s one good thing that first vet did—the second application no super glue.

So he has dropped about 100 in 2 hours. Seems like a lot, since he started lower. Not sure if he should have a spoon of lc?

But, like yesterday, I dont yet have a handle on how many points at what rate is too fast. It seems like 100 in an hour is kind of fast.

A spoon of 5.7?
If you look at the last two morning cycles he is actually dropping less.
Yesterday morning he dropped 119 point by +2 and the morning before he’s dropped 175 by +2. Today he has dropped 97 points.
We know he likes to drop in the early part of the cycles but it looks like he is starting to manage that a bit better….only time will tell if I am right of course …..and cats love to prove us wrong.
At the moment he is dropping about 50 points an hour (in the first couple of hours of the cycle) but we know he won’t keep doing that on past performances.
I think maybe just 1 teaspoon of lower carbs around 2% and test +3.

This helps me a lot! I went back to previous days and figured out the point drop from AM or PM PS to +2. He does drop some more after this point usually, until +3 or +4 or +5. Seems his nadir hour is still a bit undecided. Last night it was 171 points from ps to +2, so 97 does seem slower than I thought now. I think, since Ive never been a real numbers person or spreadsheet person before, my learning curve is rather large on this one. I could write a poem about it really easy, though;)

The BGs are supposed to drop after the insulin is given so you need to expect it to drop. Some cats drop in a very sedate manner and are predictable. Other cats barely drop at all. And other cats like to dive and bounce. And then there is a combination of them all. So every cat is different. You need to get to know Merlin’s patterns and you will over time.
We want the cats to drop down into lower numbers and preferably green BGs at nadir which are the normal numbers. And eventually stay in green numbers once regulated
Nadirs move around and are not always at +4 or +5 etc. so expect them to move around.
I think feeding Merlin a good preshot meal has helped things a lot.

78 in one hour. Now that one is challenging… It looks like the biggest drop he has had from 2 to 3.

Yes, that’s what I would do. And I think I would test in 30 minutes, just because it was a larger drop from +2 to +3 and if he had the same drop in the next hour he would be quite low. Does that make sense?
He just finished the spoon. We had to move it around the house and outside in his enclosure to get him to eat it:facepalm: So maybe we test at 3.25?

I made a little mistake. I was feeding him 1.42 both times. Should I quick feed him an actual 5.7? Testing in 2 minutes. That will decide us probably.

Just confirming that the +3.5 was 115
Sorry. The drop was not much so I would wait and test at +4.
It was my fault for getting a typo in after my @ sign that I deleted quickly, but not fast enough. This is so dependent on quick typing and fast page loading. And I acted too quickly on the 15. Hope I didn’t mess too much with this. Maybe it will make up for the super low carb two spoons Igave him earlier?

No it was my fault. All it will do is probably stop him dropping further and maybe shorten the duration. Fortunately no real damage done.

I think it will not hurt to give another tsp of low carb food if he's dropped another 50 in half an hour.... with a 200 at +2. It will not shoot him to the moon. It's early in the cycle.
