I need some help. Milo has been diet controlled for 5 years with normal reading 60-80. Check monthly and at start of November I got 235 which surprised but 2 days later it was 135 and stayed about there for 2 weeks. I know this is within normal range. Noticed this morning he'd drank quite a bit more. Checked ans got 477. I have call in to vet. I'm kicking myself as I had appointment this am that I cancelled because I'm sick
That was for little white pin size pimple things I saw on lower back and tail area. Could all this be related.
I know we can survive injections but are skin issues another sign or if not could that cause glucose to go up. He is not lethargic and has normal appetite. Mt nm

Look for signs of infection, the most common reason for relapse. Dental, bladder, and upper respiratory are common culprits. A skin infection might do it too.

Regardless of cause, I'd get a long acting insulin, and begin using it to control the glucose levelswhile managing anything else that may be present.

The vet will need to diagnose the skin issue. If it is inflammatory, he may want to give a steroid shot. These are notorious for raising the glucose and triggering diabetes. Discuss a lower, oral dose if the vet believes a steroid is appropriate treatment.

Convenia is a long-acting antibiotic approved for skin infections. Be aware that if the cat has adverse reactions to it that additional veterinar intervention may be needed due to how long Convenia lasts in the body.

Thanks for the response. I did talk to vet just now. He said to bring in Monday. Told about skin issue and he said he'd start with that and see if maybe that causing increased level. I thought about teeth also but milo had a few pulled in February and a complete dental but guess things can change there too. I am thankful for your reply. Knew I could turn here for assistance

I agree that it's time to look for other causes for the high numbers

Hopefully it'll be something easy to "fix"!

Could you take the 911 down now please? We usually save that for life threatening emergencies like really low numbers and when any of us see them, our hearts skip a beat (or 3...LOL)

Let us know what the vet finds and we can help you get Milo back under control!

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well...it sure doesn't help to have the added worry of an out of control kitty!
