thanks you!

If you've got access to a Walmart (and are in the States), their Relion syringes come with 1/2u markings. We use the 3/10cc, 5/16 inch, 31 gauge syringes from there, and also use the Monojects from ADW, though I just saw in an email the other day where they are now carrying a U100 syringe for pets with 1/2 unit markings as well... though they only come in 60 packs, whereas most human ones come 100 to a box.

Good luck!

Here's one brand: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=54754

Monoject and BD are two other big-name brands that have half unit marked insulin syringes. Youc an buy them online from Hocks.com and AmericanDiabetesWholeSale.com.

Wal Mart's Relion brand has half unit markings.

Terumo 3/10 cc 31 guage 3/8 inch: http://www.americandiabeteswholesal...ro-insulin-syringe_5891.htm?source=SiteSearch The product ID number matches the one on the Terumo info PDF as having half unit markings. I suggest calling ADW to double check on whether the product they are selling do in fact have half unit markings.

Supposedly there are insulin syringes with quarter unit markings but I have never seen them. A Google search turns up nothing, just a mention of them: http://www.diabetesexplained.com/insulin-syringe.html A FDMB member back in 2009 claimed that she/he had gotten these quarter unit insulin syringes from somewhere and was using them for the cat. She/he was asked to provide information on where the insulin syringes were obtained from but she/he never did.

Found the thread where someone claimed to have gotten quarter unit marked insulin syringes: http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/read.php?8,1844170

There are 1/4 cc (25 unit) insulin syringes available for children and babies. I think the person had these and mistakenly though she had quarter unit marked insulin syringes confused_cat But I have never seen a 25 unit insulin syringe and don't know if they are marked in whole units or if they actually do have markings for every quarter unit.

EDIT: The markings on a 1/4 cc (25 unit) insulin syringe are for every half unit: http://www.chkd.org/HealthLibrary/Facts/Content.aspx?pageid=0288

And then we have the photos attempting to SHOW those intervening values by eye balling it because we don't get the fine lines for measuring less than 1/2 unit.

Most folks are using insulin syringes; I don't know of any who aren't.

Any measurements of less than half a unit are either eye-balled, or by use of U-40 insulin in a U-100 syringe where you must do a math conversion of 0.4 * the U-100 reading to get the correct dose of the U-40 insulin.

Personally, I think they should get away from units and just go straight to mL.

Syringe notes:

a 1.00 mL insulin syringe is marked in hundredths of an mL (0.01 = 1 units) and may be marked in 2 hundredths of an mL (0.005 = a half unit)

a 1.00 mL tuberculin syringe is marked in thousandths of a mL
0.010 mL = 1.0 unit (1/100 of a mL for U-100 insulin ONLY)
0.005 ml = 0.5 units (1/200 of a mL for U-100 insulin ONLY)
and has all the intervening marks too
0.001 = 0.1 units of U-100 insulin
0.002 = 0.2 units of U-100 insulin
And so on

Some of the above is incorrect/confusing.

There are NO Syringes that are marked in thousandths of a ml. All syringes are marked in
hundredths of a ml (.01). That includes TB syringes and 1.00 ml insulin syringes.

A 1.00 ml insulin syringe is marked so each mark is 2 units. First mark
next to the needle is "zero", then 2,4,6,8,10 units. "10" is the first numbered mark (.0 ml).
There may be some where the first numbered mark is 5-units (.05ml) but
I have never seen any. Two hundredths of a ml = 2 x .01ml = .02ml

Smaller capacity syringes, 3/10ml total capacity (30 units of U-100 insulin) may have 1/2 unit
marks. You an then measure by mark: .5 units (.005 ml), 1.0 units (.010 ml), 1.5 units ( .015 ml),
2.0 units (.020 ml), 2.5 units (.025 ml), etc.

To measure very small increments (tenths of a unit = thousandths of a ml), you must use other techniques
than 'marks' on the syringe.
