Easter can be dangerous to cats, here is a short list

Thanks for posting this Nicole .. we recently had a scare with our civvie twix who ate half a lily petal .. She was rushed to the vet clinic where they had to pump her stomach full of charcoal and then needed five full days of fluid treatments .. It was very scary, and very expensive .. Please keep lilies out of the home, or at least completely put up in a cupboard when not in full view (ours were on top of the fridge).

great reminder, Nicole!! Thankfully, when it comes to houseplants, I've been dubbed the "Black Thumb," so I don't even bother anymore!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Simba the Crocodile have already eaten all the plants I had. All non toxic though since I've cat adapted that department eons ago.

But this is also something to consider for people buying and giving away flowers to cat owned others. To me it is as simple to tell people not to give me flowers, especially pot flowers, as it is to say to not serve me meat because I am vegetarian.

But roses are okay for cats so here is one for you all

I really miss having plants myself, but just decided not to once I got cats..
It is a great reminder during Easter & anytime of the year

Cat grass and catnip are two obviously safe plants to have around cats :smile:

The only safe plant I have is an African Violet and the occasional pot of grass. I would love to have fresh cut flowers and other potted plants at home but one cat has a really bad habit of eating/getting into stuff he's not supposed to touch @-) So I keep non-safe plants at work.

My civvie Boomer had a "run-in" with an asiatic lily my Dad put on my kitchen table unbeknownst to me until about 15 minutes later when I saw Boomer sitting next to it. I knew that most kinds of lilies can cause acute renal failure when any part, large or small, of the plant is ingested. I immediately called the vet who told me to get Boomer to an E.R. immediately which I did. He was there two days (and lots of $$) to get his system flushed out - I will never know for sure if he actually ate any part of the plant, but he has a history of loving to chew on plants so I did want to take any chances.
