This is scary for me. I wonder how low he will go now. Just fed him teaspoon of low carb food and will watch.

don't panic. Don't keep feeding. If he goes lower than 50, that's another story. 76 is NOT too low.
Check every 30 minures or so. This is not a bad thing

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

Trying not to. Actually it's @ +5. I punched in wrong number. So i have at least 3hrs to go. Now i'm shaking. Do i just keep feeding every 15min?

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

opps! Just saw that you said stop feeding. Why not feed now to prevent hypo?

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

Hi Owlgal, I'll stay with you ok? You are in no immediate danger. Carl does'nt want you to fill your cat up with food in case we need it in an hour.
You will be fine, I'm here with you

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

THank you! He has never been this low. He still has 3 hrs to go before the insulin starts to go out of system. I'm about to test again.

THanks!

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

Cooper is ok. Ummmm, Carl could you call me? Importante

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

Just got his +7 reading and @ 254. That is after about 6oz of high gravy carb food and 1.5oz of low carb, handful of dry food and karo mixed in food. Also rubbed karo on his gums twice. I'm a MESS!

THANK YOU LORI AND CARL for all your help! Lori stayed with me on the phone and helped me stay calm and talked me through it all! I could not of done it without her!!!!!! Thank you Carl for alerting her! This is team work. I think when i stop shaking and crying that i will be able to breath again. I hate he got too much insulin. Just trying to follow advice and stay on the dose. Lori really has helped me to understand how prozinc works and went over his chart with me. I hope that someday i can be as confident about looking at a chart and understanding it so well. I know now, too much insulin and will start all over again tomorrow with lower dose. Much lower. I'm almost afraid to give any right now, but i know he does need it. I pray i can give it tomorrow without shaking and crying.

I was supposed to go out for my anniversary tonight, but not sure i can leave him. I know his sugar will drop some more, but don't think it will be in the 20's again. I hope. He is still just in the +7th hour.

THank you for all your responses. I will probably test him in a couple of hours and let you know.

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

Rob if you are in agreement that this kitty has too much insulin going on...check the slant rather than a curve the last few days, would you be willing to start again with Lori?
The time difference makes it difficult for me to see her in the mornings at 8am her time. Eastern.

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

His +8 is @ 425. I guess all the high carb and karo worked. Now i'm worried about it too high. WIll he go into some kind of DKA with it too high?

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

Well he is just responding to the carbs and his liver input from the 27 earlier.
Cat's don't usually go into DKA from one incident.
You would'nt be shooting any way until midnight so see how he is then.
This is the carbs talkin.
It's a common response after a hypo.

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

+12 he is @ 508. He has never been so high! I thought i was not supposed to shoot tonight and to wait until morning? How much higher can it go? Now i'm worried. I'm so exhausted and need to get some rest. He is begging for more food, but don't dare give him anymore food with it that high. He hasn't eaten since +6. Do i feed him before i go to bed? What time do i start to give him insulin again?

Lori

Re: +6 and @76- scary!

Lori
I only have a minute....
do not shoot. Let him eat. If he hasn't eaten since then, he's hungry. Feed him.
Tommorrow, shoot him at whatever time you want to be your normal every twelve hours shot time, just like you are "starting over"
If that is 8am, then give him his shot at 8am. Go back to 2u. The dose needs to be lower to avoid long durations and scary low numbees. No insulin until tomorrow morning is not going to hurt him.
I am so sorry your anniversary was messed up tonight. Give copper some food and then go tell DH that you love him.
carl

Just so no one thinks this cat maintained until morning Lori called me and we did what most folks here would have done and shot .5 (token dose for what this kitty normally takes on) so Lori could rest.
It appears to have maintained the kitty to a 400 something this am.
Lori
She was worried to admit, as was I, that we went against previous advice.
She holds the syringe and her instincts and mine were good.
