Well, today started off on a very Monday-like note. I woke up to find the screen on Trixie's meter was cracked! Last night, a heavy can opener had fallen out of the cupboard and landed hard on the counter. What I didn't realize at the time was that the can opener actually landed on the meter, breaking it. It was still working fine when I did her bedtime test, but I guess all the LCD juice leaked during the night, so when I went to grab the meter this morning, it looked like one big ink blot.

Given where she was last night, and what her trends have been lately, I did give her her shot, knowing I'd be running out ASAP for a new meter. Of course none of the local pharamcies opened until 9:00! I honestly don't know how people shoot blind and not worry; time was practically standing still this morning while I was waiting for the pharmacy to open.

Of course I've been meaning to buy a back up meter for ages, but never got around to it ohmygod_smile . And, I was going to buy 2 meters today, but they only had 1 One Touch Ultra Mini (I'm used to it...didn't want to change), so tracking down a second One Touch is at the top of my errand list for tomorrow. Another valuable lesson learned...sigh.

This morning is Trix's 6th cycle on this dose. We've got a few more to go before thinking about adjusting, but I have a feeling we're heading towards another increase again. In any event, I've never been so happy to see a high blue as I was at +3.25 today...I had a small fear that today was going to be the day she'd clear the bounce and slide into AMPS....

...and, somehow I managed to get a bad strip! I plugged it in, it was good to go. But Trix decided to shake her head, so I had to reset the strip. When I did that, it kept giving me an error, even though the strip never went near her ear. I've never had that happen before, and I resent strips all the time.

If this is the worst of the Mondays, though, I can live with it!

Amy: go to this website and fill out the form but be sure you check that you are using another brand of meter. The first time I filled out the form, I put that I used a OT Ultra mini and got the "NO". But then I went back and filled it out again and put that I was using another meter and they sent me a coupon via email the same day and I took it to Walgreens and got my free one. I figure for what we pay for strips, why not?

Yay Trixie!!! She wants mamabean to feel better, too!! I hope the link works for you.

Here's something to make you laugh: one night Gracie had me up ALL night long....she so wanted to be in the 40s. I would sleep for 30 mins to an hour and then get up and test...all night. When I got up to do her AMPS, instead of putting her rice sock in the microwave, I put her glucometer in....for 15 seconds. OMG the smell!! It's a wonder I didn't set my house on fire. Luckily, I had a backup Contour that reads pretty close to the OT when Gracie is low so I used it and then, like you, I was at the pharmacy door as soon as they opened. Then I decided I needed another OT backup and got the free one and thus sealed my membership in Glucometer Addicts Anonymous (GAA). :lol: :lol:

LOL...I'm sure that wasn't funny at the time, but it is hilarious now! Exhaustion will play some nasty tricks on our brains, that's for sure!

I tell you, I was almost jonesing when I saw they only had one OT Ultra Mini at the store today! I'm going to have to treat that think like a newborn babe until I can get a back up tomorrow!

Funny thing is, I was always more worried about the lancing device breaking, since it gets so much use. I figured, with buying a new meter, now I'll also have the back up lancing device, too. Of course they HAD to change the style lancing device, though, and the one that came with the meter I bought this morning won't work with the lancets that I have. This new device, "The Delica" is supposed to be "more comfortable"...I'm sorry, but getting poked with a needle is getting poked with a needle - how much more comfortable can it get??? So, in addition to getting another meter, I also need to get another style of lancets, for back up.

Just findin' news ways to spend $$$...

Well looks like Trix is going to have a very nice cycle today isn't she?

I'd be in a total panic too, shooting blind. I couldn't imagine doing it, and just think of all the people out there that do shoot their cats blind!!

The whole glucometer thing is a big money maker isn't it? I've often wondered just how much it costs to produce strips.....and they turn around and sell them for pretty much a dollar a strip.

Ah, it is nice to know that pre-shot number. And...maybe she's settling into this dose after all. We'll see how the next few cycles pan out, but perhaps my threat of increasing her dose worked...

Yeah, the price of strips just kills me...it's a racket, that's for sure!

I'm fixin' to join the multi-meter ranks, that's for sure! I'm actually excited to go meter shopping tomorrow...yikes. Between that fact, and the fact that I now tell time in terms of "+1", "+2", etc...well, my world is a very different place now.

Do you order your test strips on ebay? I usually get mine there for half the price as retail.
 
I usually get my strips through Hocks...they're pretty close to half-price there, as well. There have been a few times that we've burned through strips more quickly than I could order them, so I've had to buy locally...OUCH, does that hurt!

She's a surfin' now :mrgreen: !!!
 
I used to buy them at Hocks. I always get them cheaper on ebay. I make sure I buy from the best seller people with the ribbons and I usually do "buy it now". I don't bid but I'm still getting them cheaper than hocks.
