I can't thank everyone enough for all the pilling/gelcap tips yesterday. This morning, Trix was not being fooled by any sort of treat-wrapped fortiflora dusted pill, so I put on my newest version of BOS, loaded up the gelcap with her BP meds, famotidine, and a small piece of cypro and got that pup down her throat. It took about 5 tries, but we did it. I think now that we made it through once, it should get easier. She was a little freaked out by it, but I think because she didn't have the bitter pill flavor to battle, she was LESS freaked out than when I was trying to get just the pills in her mouth. And, I have to say, it was a stress relief for me to know I didn't have to approach her with another round of pills and pray that she would take them!

We have an 11:40 appointment for a BP check and quick once over. Overall, I'd say she's about the same...she's eating well enough but needs my encouragement most of the time. Her energy is "eh". But she is definitely much, much better than she was at the beginning of this...she is giving me snuggles and purrs and is being somewhat social. Baby steps. Vetty had recommended this appointment be in a week or two, but I need it for my peace of mind...especially since I do wonder about the possibility of her BP now being a bit too low. This will answer that question and ease my mind....at least I hope it will ease my mind!

With that...I am running late and have to get myself in motion, since I do have to run in to work for a short bit before her appointment. One of these days I really hope to regroup my wits and brains so I can spend more time visiting, but please be assured I think about everyone every single day. Many hugs to my wonderful LL family!

Amy

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 - GelCap Success! BP check later thi

Woohoo on the gelcap! That's great news. I'm sending lots of appy vines to Trixie and lots of good vetty vines your way, too!

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 - GelCap Success! BP check later thi

Morning Amy ~O) ~O) ~O)

WOOT! Gelcaps rule! I had forgotten about those.... I was about to do that, and somehow we never ended up going that route. How nice though to be able to get all the meds in at once. it does get easier pilling a cat. I ended up doing that with Mannie too, once he caught on to all the other pill tricks. Some folks her have real success with pill shooters. I tried that too, but it just didn't work well with Mannie. So manual insertion, by hand. I go very good at it. ;-) Anyways - I am glad that the gelcaps are a success.

Good luck with the BP check. GO Trixie! normal BP for you. 'K? Keep on truckin' Trixie.

Have a great day Amy. I hope all goes well.

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 - GelCap Success! BP check later thi

Good luck with the BP check. I always worry that Max could be low at home too since his energy is MIA these days. I worry about white coat syndrome which I have myself. He never tests low though.

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 - GelCap Success! BP/Vetty Update

We had a brief vetty visit today. Her BP is perfectly normal, so her meds are still at the right levels. Her low energy is really related to her recovery...so at least we've eliminated low BP as an issue. SInce she has so much going on, it just could take her longer to bounce back. Her belly doesn't seem tense and tender like it did last time, so that is also a good sign. She has lost a little weight (no surprise), and the vet wants us to add in a little bit of assist feeding to be sure we get some more calories into her. Woohoo!!! I'm sure it will be OK, once we get used to it. Fortunately she had a little weight to spare, but we do want to stop any further weight loss at this point.

She did want to eat when we got home, but wasn't to impressed with what I was offering. Ugh....

Gotta go coax her a bit more, then head back to work!

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 - GelCap Success! BP/Vetty Update

:-D :-D :-D Great news on the BP and on the success w/ the gelcaps! If you try syringe feeding use a food she normally doesn't eat to prevent a food aversion. I'd go for the highest calorie food I can find too. Wellness Turkey or Chicken is 40 kcal/oz and Wild Calling! Chicken is 44.

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 - GelCap Success! BP/Vetty Update

All in all. it sounds like a good day so for for Trixie, and a nice AMBG to boot! I'd say two paws up! :thumbup

Sending more appy vines. Trixie, you need to eat your fuds, sweetie. They are good for you, and you'll feel so much better after you eat!

I'm glad the gelcaps worked so well for you. It is easier to get them all done at once! Have a great day, Amy. :-D

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 - GelCap Success! BP/Vetty Update

Thank you for reminding me, Ann, to feed just one food. The vet told me the same thing...pick one that is probably her least favorite and stick with it, in case she does develop an aversion to it. Of course I forgot that little tidbit already...my tired fuzzy brain is tired and fuzzy. Thank you for the calorie info, too....I think we'll try Wild Calling. More good times lie ahead!

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 - GelCap Success! BP/Vetty Update

Wonderful vetty report for Trixie!!

Happy to hear the gelcaps worked too!

Come on Trixie...eats your fuds! Your mamabean works hard for it!

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 - GelCap Success! BP/Vetty Update

Yay on the bp and the gelcap success. I hope Trixie starts eating more on her own. Good luck with the assisted feeding until she's eating more.

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 PMBG 141 GelCap Success! BP/Vetty Up

It took a few extra tries, but the gelcap went down this evening, too. We'll get better at this....I have to say I love not having to try and try and try to convince her to take treat-wrapped pills, but I also admit I miss how cute and excited she used to be when she got her BP "treats" after her shot, before she got sick. I'm glad I captured it on video...

She was waiting for dinner tonight, but wasn't super-duper excited about what I offered....that's kind of par for the course these days. Hopefully it will change as time passes and she'll be more excited about food like she used to be. I still managed to get an OK first round in, with more to follow throughout the evening. We'll also assist feed some Wild Callings chicken later on, too. And, I did bump her cypro up to 1/4 tablet tonight to see if that gets her more interested without making her too restless.

Time for the beans to eat something.....

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 PMBG 141 GelCap Success! BP/Vetty Up

Good job with the gelcaps. Did you smear some butter on them like Libby suggested?

I hope that Trixie will cooperate with the assisted feeding. Rusty likes the Wild Calling chicken; maybe Trixie will, too.

Habe a good weekend, Amy. Get some good rest!

Ella & Rusty,

Max won't eat the Wild Calling nor the NV Instinct. He is soooo picky.

Re: 5/9 Trixie AMBG 110 PMBG 141 GelCap Success! BP/Vetty Up

Hi Amy,

Great news that the BP is normal and her tummy not tender. Also, the gelcap success. At least, you can fit

the medicines together so less stress for Trixie in the long run. We will keep you in prayer. Hope you get to relax some. you need to get some time to unwind due to the increased care and stress.
