Hi Lori, I noticed in your SS Labs, Lulu tested positive for pancreatitis in March? Is she symptomatic at this point still? I also noticed you said she vomited bile the other day, which is why I asked. Tiger did that after her first pancreatitis attack, only I was not given the supporting meds such as cerenia or ondansetron to give at home, she was only given at shot at the ER vet's.

I am sorry you had some problems with testing her too(been there, done that! :bighug:) If you absolutely need to at shot time, aim for the vein in the ear but be prepared to tamp down on it with a cotton ball and rub it with polysporin. I use a cotton ball on the back of the ear when I poke. At first I also used to collect the blood either on an old test strip(the side of the test strip not the part where you sip up the blood) or the back of my fingernail.

I can't tell how dark Lulu's ears are from her avatar, but I thought I'd mention I bought a headlamp to help me see the blood drop on Furball's dark ears. It really makes a big difference.

Lulu will come back down. Even if it was a fur shot, she'll get back on track. We all do them.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words:bighug::bighug::bighug:. I`ve forgotten what so many of you say: Breathe! Today I am and will be calm when I deal with Lulu. She does pick up on the frustration vibes, and things never go well when both of us are freaking out.
She did test positive for mild pancreatitis in March, so we are administering 25u SQ of Vit B12 q7 days. I had her in to the vet the other day, who said she hadn`t seen Lulu looking so good in a long time. There has been no more vomiting, thankfully. I can`t help but feel that the metronidazole she was prescribed for her diarrhea may have something to do with things being off. I have been having a really hard time pilling her and I know my anxiety doesn`t help. I understand that this stuff tastes AWFUL. Last night I found an eyedropper from an old Rx Lulu had last year, I had washed it and put it away. I`m glad I did. Last night and today, no probs with the pilling, I put it to the back of her throat, kept her mouth closed, kissed her nose a few times (suggested by vet), and then squirted some water in her mouth. Down the hatch went the pill, both times. The diarrhea is clearing up, thankfully.
I do have a flashlight that I used last night, very helpful. Did poke a vein, lots of blood, but I stemmed the flow with Kleenex and then put a dab of polysporin on. I am calm today, no panic, everything is and will be good. I praise, hug, kiss and love up little Lulu after pilling, pokes, and injections, she is sitting beside me purring and kneading away as I type.:):cat:
You guys rock! Thanks again.

May I make a suggestion for both your sakes? Get some size 3 gel capsules to put nasty tasting pills in. I use them for all meds Max gets. It makes giving meds so much easier. I give him a treat of baby food which he loves to chase it down. Max also has had chronic pancreatitis for over 5 years. I don't give him B12 as his level when tested was fine. Your vet can test for it.

Thanks, Elise, the gelcaps are a good suggestion. The vet told me the metronidazole tablets were coated, and that she wouldn`t prescribe the liquid because it tastes so bad, it can cause foaming at the mouth.
Actually the vet prescribed the B12 for the pancreatitis. I`ll probably be getting another blood panel done in September (unless something happens and one is needed beforehand) and will request a B12 serum test as well.
Thanks again for the great suggestions.

Your welcome. The pills are nasty too. Out of curiosity what dose are the pills. I was going to have to cut mine.

She gets a 62.5 mg tablet q12h, the Rx was for 7 days worth (14). They are rather flat round turquoise tabs. I just gave her the tablet, glad I had some polysporin for the scratches on my hand:eek:, didn't wrap the kitty burrito well enough. She wasn`t trying to scratch me on purpose, just trying to get away. I`ll pick up some gel caps tomorrow.

Call around to see if you can find the size 3 gel caps. Not all health food stores carry them. The smaller the number the bigger the gelcap. I have mostly used size 3 and 4 but even bought some 5's which weren't wor the the money. You can get them from Amazon and NOW makes them. My pills were not coated. Good luck.

Lori

I just saw your post...So sorry you and Lucy are having this difficult time. I know pilling can be very difficult for both of you. When I have pilled Tuxie with flagyl in the past I dip the pill into some bone broth gel and then pop it into the side of his mouth towards the back. The gel made the pill more slippery and easier to swallow. With Tuxie he always scoffed his food down right after so I knew the pill went down. If Lucy has a "treat" food such as tuna you could give her some of the juice right after to help swallow the pill, or syringe some water as you have been doing

Healing vines and ((HUGSS)) to both of you!
