Thanks for the birthday wishes.

I decided to postpone Lovey's dental because after I brought her in for diarrhea and low appetite last week, a sub vet heard a heart murmur. My normal vet was off for the weekend. My regular vet listened to her heart in March and November and didn't hear that?
The sub vet suggested to bring her back for my regular vet to check this. I am wondering if it could of been due to stress? The sub vet. mentioned that she wouldn't want any elective surgery without an echocardiogram if there was any indication of an issue. Lovey was eating normal after two days and the diarrhea left.

I was a little nervous about the dental already. I am going to bring Lovey back on Wednesday to recheck her heart again and then proceed from there.

Sorry to hear about the murmur, Catherine. Hopefully you're right, and it's just a stress-related "fluke." Are you doing the dental Wednesday, or is that just a follow-up for the murmur? Regardless, let us know how it goes!

Thanks Shelly. I am going to the regular vet to recheck for the murmur. I am believing they would find it.
 
Neko also has a heart murmur. It just showed up about a year ago and she didn't have one before that - the vet checks each time she sees her. A dental specialist is a good idea if Lovey has a heart murmur and they will probably want either an echocardiogram or a chest X-ray done first. An echo cardiogram (heart ultrasound) costs more but gives more information. A previous kitty of mine had a heart murmur and the X-ray showed nothing (other than finding some arthritis we didn't know about :roll: ) so we had to do the echocardiogram as well. More $$.

Anyway, Neko's echo showed that her heart murmur is due to some age related changes to her heart - nothing to worry about for now. The cardiologist said just to have her vet keep monitoring it and as long as it didn't change location or level then not to worry. Paws crossed Lovey's heart murmur isn't significant either.

The nice thing about a dental specialist is that they usually have someone specially trained dedicated to anesthesia and blood pressure/heart monitoring, which is why I chose a specialist.
 
Cinco and Minka both have heart murmurs. Minka has not needed a dental since hers was diagnosed, but Cinco had one with no issues. I think they are more common than we realize.

Sending good vetty vines for the recheck. I'm glad the diarrhea resolved. No fun for anyone!

Thanks all for the support and advice. I do have a referral for a board certified specialist who has another person to do anesthesia. When my vet heard that I wanted to take Lovey there, she thought he was excellent and a caring person.
