5/8 Leo PMPS 155 & other good stuff!

Good Morning LL,

So despite Leo's dx yesterday he's been giving me very nice blues, greens and now this yellow this morning. We had a very good sleep, Leo snuggled all night long and woke me up this morning by swiping things off my nightstand, water bottle, phone, wrappers for candy. Do ya think he was mad because i wasn't waking up? :lol: Anyway, after that wakeup call we had a good test, shoot and feed. We just came in from a nice outdoor visit, its very warm already and Leo felt the need to patrol the yard and have a bite of grass.

Leo's grandpa called me last night to find out if i'd gone to the vet college yet, when he found out i hadn't he asked what i was waiting for. I told him "you have to book an appointment dad, you can't just show up" Then he wanted to know when the appointment was and who would Leo be seeing. He is very concerned about his grandcat.

Thank you sooooo much everyone for the nice replies and PM's, what would i do without my FDMB family?

I've attached 2 pictures of Leo from yesterday, you can see how stressed out he is about being diagnosed with acromegaly. :roll:

Hi guys .. I just want to grab leo and hug him and hold him forever! :-D I think I love leo so much cause of his personality .. I think it's adorable that his grandpabeanz is so worried about him .. Will he be going to the dr appt with you? Have a great day guys!

How sweet what your dad said!! He really loves Leo so much, too. Leo is a lucky boy.

Oh what great pics of your boy! He looks terribly stressed - I think you need to do something special for that boy! :-D

It's so good to hear that your family is supporting you thru all this too. I'm so happy for you!

Here's hoping Leo continues to "cruise" along - be happy - and in the meantime sending you good wishes for a great day!

What a wonderful condo today!!! I think we could ALL take a lesson from Leo in how to manage stress - he really is sooo inspiring!

I think it would be awesome of DGp could accompany you and Leo to your consult. It may help give all of you peace of mind.

Tracy, your dad is so sweet and he loves his grandkitty very much.

I hope Leo continues his good numbers and that all will go smoothly with the vet school appointment.

Ok so good news, Dr. Griffin from CSU phoned me and we had a nice chat for about 45 minutes or so.....she's a fellow Canadian!! We spoke about doing SRT for Leo, she assured me that SRT for acrocats is a wonderful thing and basically that she can promise a good outcome for Leo, if he doesn't go OTJ then she can promise he will be on a nice low dose. She said that Dr. Mayer from the University of Saskatchewan is a wonderful doctor who has trained at CSU and is one of the great radiation oncologists, she also said the U of S will be getting the same machine they use at CSU and will be able to do SRT here. She just said it was a matter of how i felt and how comfortable i feel having Leo be one of the first patients to use this machine here. But she did assure me Dr. Mayer is wonderful and very competent. I told her i was exploring my options and she said that was great. So i asked about cost and booking an appointment at CSU. She said if i wanted to i could book an appointment for next week. I told her i would most likely have this done in June/July, i need to gather my resources and book some holidays. I'd also like to keep our appointment with Dr. Mayer here and see how i feel about her and SRT here. It would definitely be nice to not have to travel and i'd like to find out what the cost would be to have it done at the U of S. She quoted me $4000-$5000US plus hotel costs and food to have it done at CSU. My sister has already volunteered to come with me to Colorado, i'm sure Leo's grandpa would like to come but he's got such severe back problems that 2-3 days in a vehicle would not be something he'd want to do. Dr. Griffin said June/July would be better because Dr. Timian is gone until June and she's the guru i'd want to see, next to Dr. Lunn who is gone to North Carolina.

I hope Leo's insurance will cover some or most of this, i'll have to give them a call as well and enquire about it.

I feel sooooo hopeful!!! :-D

Tracy, this is such encouraging news. I know that you will make the best decision for Leo's treatment. Thinking only good thoughts for your boy.

That is all really great news Tracy! What perfect pictures of the big guy. He looks very stressed. :lol: :lol: :lol: Leo doesn't care. He's just his same old happy guy who like to eat mousies. I'm glad you got encouraging news today. ((((Hugs))))

I wanted to reply yesterday and I'm sorry my teflon brain failed me again. I just wanted to send big hugs to you and Leo. He's on a really low dose for an acro cat. It sounds like you have a lot of options and can feel secure in any decision you make. It is heart refilling reading about how loved he is by your family. You are an awesome mom. His pictures made my day.

you have insurance?! you smart woman!!! i didn't realize.

sounds like a great chat with dr griffin. i liked her too - she was punkin's radiation oncologist. so glad you're getting lots of connections made. our cost was $3400ish, i think, probably because we had all the blood tests run before we went. they also were doing a study at the time and included one procedure for free - it was either the mri or cat scan. we did both and they didn't charge for one of them. if you look at that PDF of The Great Punkin (i think i might have given you the link yesterday, but it's on the high dose forum in the post on punkin's SRT documentation) you can see dr timian and dr griffin in it - i think it might have been the last picture. good people.

just saying, i'm still waiting for the pic of leo and the mousie in the bowl. :lol: maybe grandpa can get one in the next visit.

your dad is the best. mine was like that too - he pretended to not like pets, but he was such a softie and he adored punkin. i miss him. treasure your folks - they sound pretty wonderful!

! What wonderful pix! I've always thought that I just want to scoop Leo up, blankie and all when I see his avatar.

You have lots of good options and great people surrounding you to help and advise! Paws crossed that the insurance will cover a good oprtion of the costs. That's what it is for.

You are doing incredible data gathering and you will definitely know what your options are. When you speak with the insurance company, find out if they will reimburse if you opt to go to CSU. Insurance companies are weird and try to get out of paying in whatever way they can. (Oops! We won't pay for a hangnail on your left foot. Only on the right foot. Didn't we make that clear? You should have read your policy. Sorry.)

This is great News and look how Leo is taking it!! :lol: :lol: I am thrilled that you have a competent place & good vets to care for Leo--You are a Big part of our family here--What you & Leo go through, We Go Through Too!!!! I have such positive feelings about this!!
But I looked at his numbers & said these are pretty great numbers for an acrocat!
The pix there show you that Leo is Brave & Bold--also pretty darn cuddly & sweet--

Tracy, I'm so impressed with how much you already know about it and all the research you've done ahead of the game. If I need something major done, are you available for hire? :-D I'd pay a lot, too! That is all so very encouraging with Leo. I love the pics! Leo is resting up so he can catch more mousies, and then you can take a good pic of it all! I have tears in my eyes reading all these responses. Today is a new day and i feel great about it, i feel so hopeful and so very happy to have Leo by my side. Leo is a trooper and will come through this with flying colours and as Tarragon said "give those vets hell!"

I updated Leo's DGpa just now and he's happy to hear what can be done to help Leo. He said he would prefer if i took Leo to the U of S so that Leo could be home every night and probably so DGpa could come and be there for Leo as well.

your dad - aw, i think he's a real treasure. i only know him from your posts and i totally adore him. that must mean you kinda like him too. :YMHUG:

you know, despite having the acro tumor, i don't think punkin has it any worse than many of our cats here. he's sitting on the floor in front of me right now, madly purring away. his motor's been going for at least a half hour. he's hardly living a miserable life! cat_pet_icon

I'm afraid I'd be sitting in a corner for days, before I could gather up my strenghth to act, and learn.

What a wonderful dad you have. It means a lot to have family members that understand the struggle you're going through, and love Leo as much as you do.
