If it's right outside the box, he may have arthritis and it's just hard to get in and out. If so, you can try just putting a puppy training pad in front or around the box. I had to do that for J.D. and it worked well.

yes, mostly near the box, sometimes poops are far from the box too. i hv a puppy pad at the front of the box, but didn't get all the pee...
but there are also both #1 and #2 inside the box too...
so i m unsure about arthritis
