Which reminds me - I imagine this is probably somewhere on the boards already and i just haven't come across it...but I was investigating some other online diabetes info sources and I'm going to give it a try once I get back down off the .5....its a scale to be used with your syringes to try to more accurately measure dosage.
to my knowledge, you won't find this template on the fdmb at this time. not in any official capacity anyway because not all syringes are made the same. some U-100 syringes have different barrel sizes which would affect the use of this template.
kirsten (tillydiabetes.net) contacted me last year after the german-katzen forum came up with the template. you'll notice the template is for BD syringes. the template was made from BD syringes available in europe. it was not known at that time if the BD syringes available in north america are made to the exact specifications as the ones available in europe. if anyone in north america uses BD syringes, they could check to see if the measurements line up with markings on their BD syringes.
you'll also notice the instructions: "Print out this on A4 paper not letter size. Make sure you print "Actual size" and don't scale it." A4 is the size paper commonly used in europe.
Hi Jill - Sorry about any confusion - I certainly wasn't intending to post that link anywhere publicly - rather it was a statement I was making to Mel as we've had discussions about trying to be consistent with small doses. My bad - I shall remove that part of my post as soon as I finish replying.
Now to address what sound like concerns with me using this template - It has to do with attempting to be consistent in dosing, which I think you will agree is important, especially when dealing with microdoses, rather than worrying so much about what the actual measurement translates to. For me, dosing to a mark is much easier than eyeballing between two points, and I don't have the dexterity or the patience to deal with calipers.
I realize that not all syringes are the same - in fact that statement is made on the link. For that matter, although I don't know the tolerance that is permitted in syringes, I think its a pretty safe bet that two syringes of the same brand perhaps even from the same lot might not dose identically....but that's just the way it is. For any syringe, I imagine it would be easy enough to tell if the 1u marking matched up to the syringe line and go from there, but I happen to have some BDs at home that I don't use because they don't have the 1/2 u markings.
As far as a copying actual size....that will happen as long as a printer is set to print the actual size of the file as opposed to adjusting it to fit some arbitrary paper size. In other words, as long as you ask a printer or copier to reproduce the document at its actual size - it will do so whether you use A4, letter, or legal for that matter - you'll just get more blank space. At least that's what happens with the HP I use at the office and the Canon at home..(I deal with a lot of international documents)....I can't speak to other brands.
Now, I shall remove the reference to the link so that no one else happening upon this condo is confused and thinks I'm promoting the use of that template...and I appreciate your mention that it is not available as a link from here and the reason it is not.
Thank you,
Em
