been trying to give larrys shot for about 10 mins. or more. very frustrated. he lays down in the floor where i cant get to him. i feel bad bc he needs to eat. my arms r weak and not a lot of feeling in them. every time the shot makes it in, he jumps. once he jumped and bit me and i dropped the syringe. this is so hard. i need my body to cooperate at least.

i feel like i must have stuck him 10 times? i feel bad :( never seen him like this. he bit and cried and jumped every time. tried to run away. what do u do when they wont hold still? i hope i didnt make him worse by so many stabs. ended with furshot. very stressful. :(

ETA can sum1 tell me something i can do? he has jerked the needle out several times tonight now? i am totally exhausted and frustrated. how do i get this in him? he is crying each time i feel bad!

ETA ok i think i got it in. fingers crossed. he ate a little mozarella cheese and i did it. guess we will use that until i can get some parm. hope it works. at least he came down some on his own today. thankful for any good news.

oh wow honey, I feel so bad for you. Do you have any Parmesaen cheese in the house? that is irresistable to my cat, she would come out from anywhre for that stuff. Maybe put some food out with some stinky cheese on it to get him to get to a place where you can shoot.

((((Pam))))

Really think he's hating the sting of Lantus. Wish I had more Levemir on hand at the moment because I'd send you a couple pens to try. If you can hang tough for a couple months I have a friend making a Canadian run to pick up insulin for herself and my kids but she's not planning on going until mid June or early July.

Aww... big hugs Pam. I'm so sorry to hear that Larry is giving you such a hard time. My Max was terrible to test at first, so I have lots of sympathy for parents of uncooperative cats. I'm lucky cause Max love treats, so I can get him to let me do what I need with the treats. If he's especially wiggly, I'll sit on the floor and put my legs around him to help keep him still, but I don't think that would work with your situation. Maybe you can do as Mel suggested and try Levemir eventually.

Re: 5/7 larry AMPS 349

thanks u all. just seeing this. i guess since i was upset i didnt check the notify box, by accident.
no, no parmesan. i forgot all about that. somehow i dont even think that would have worked today. he laid down, back to me, like a child. so defiant, but pitiful. not mad at him, just sad. he had/has to be upset to do that. he refused food and was trying his best to run away. gotta figure out how to get thru tonight, etc. i hope it gets better. hes slept like a baby all day. so peaceful. i hope i dont/havent hurt him.

Burrito wrap: lay down a bath towel.
Put Larry on it in the center.
Fold each side snugly around him so his legs are wrapped in the towel.
This makes it harder for him to get away or scratch you.
If necessary, loosely drape a towel around his head to protect you from bites.
Wear long sleeves when testing and shooting to protect you from bites, too.

Are you able to kneel on the floor?
If yes, try getting him in the bathroom (treats!).
Shut the door so he can't get far if he gets away from you.
Get everything prepped and within arms reach.
Kneel on the floor with Larry betwen your knees and squeeze your thighs together to help hold him in place.
- optionally, drape a towel over him or burrito wrap him with the towel to further restrain him and protect you from claws.
Now test and shoot.

Or, if the floor isn't an option, use a couch or upholstered chair (more cushion).
Get every thing set up in arms reach.
Get Larry on the chair/couch. Wedge him between you and the arm of the couch.
Drape with a towel if needed.
Test and shoot.
